    My sedum (Autumn Joy?) is in full bloom and today they were hoochin' with butterflies. We thought they were all red admirals but there was one painted lady. There were photographs taken and books looked at... Good grief! Such excitement. 😳

    This shouldn't be unusual but this year it is - a non-battered painted lady 

    You don't think of butterflies as being so hairy!

    Yes it does appear unusually hairy @NormandyLiz. But it's actually a Small Tortoiseshell which (in the UK anyway) have a second emergence in July/August hence fresh examples around this time  :)
