Hello folks, Sounds like lots of you have had a good day, as I have as well. It's been good enough weather to garden in two stints, before and after lunch. I dug a hole in one bed so I could plant a potted rose there. Did find thick clay at the bottom so forked in manure and slow release fertiliser pellets. It's a lovely (though unnamed) white rose. After lunch I just pottered, tying in a clematis, pruning the apple and pear trees and like Punkdoc doing some light weeding.
Later I had a phone call from SIL (who is a retired nurse herself) telling me that my brother seems much better, his oxygen levels are up, the lovely Cardiac Nurse has been in to see him and was happy with his progress but that she was now going to call in a Macmillan nurse as well. Not quite sure whether that's good or bad news. We might be able to go and see him if he's well enough when we stay with my sister later in the month.
Thanks @Dovefromabove. I think it's going to set ok... we love home-made marmalade and I enjoy making preserves. It really helps to have a proper jam pan and an enormous wooden jam-making spoon, with square corners for scraping the bottom of the pan. I can't remember where I bought it but it was years ago. It's stained and scented with lots of different jams now.
If I could aim better I could hurl my spare (frozen) oranges across the Irish Sea to you...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Evening everyone. Feeling more human today as the anti-biotics have kicked in and are reducing the tooth abscess. Made a future appointment to get naughty tooth removed. Hope all those feeling under the weather are now improving, take care everyone.
Just a quick pop in, managed a read back, I will take your advice @Obelixx regards ginger and garlic. I do use garlic a lot, less so ginger, but will make an extra effort.
Glad to hear everyone else is on the mend too and/or at least comfortable, I really don't like winter, looking forward to sring and sunshine again soon. Makes everything so much more bearable.
Slowly, slowly getting better, but it is a slow process and I am just so tired all the time. One more day at work and then it the fresh mountain air. Off to bed now with my painkillers and really hoping to actually sleep for a whole 8 hours..... would make all the difference.
Good night all, and good morning to @Pat E when you appear.

I switched my volunteer day and went today as OH was taking GD to college again, so we had an early start (for us). Backfired a bit as the M25 was hell so I didn't get there any earlier than when I leave an hour later. Anyway I was entrusted with pruning a large Acer, it's positioned right next to a very deep pond so I had to tread carefully, literally 😯 Did anyone else see the programme on just before the repair shop? The first lab I worked in was the specialist blood group lab they talked about, it was in London then, I left when it moved to Oxford, now its in Filton near Bristol. In fact they have consolidated nearly all the main Blood service functions down there, risky in my view, they had a flood a few years ago, put the whole operation in jeopardy for a week. Anyway it was fun to see all the old familiar processes again.
Penny Forthem I hope your son is able to fight the dreaded virus. Best wishes to everyone else. I can’t remember all with probs. 🤭 DD, best wishes to you for your health and then your holiday. Sounds very nice.
We’ve had the plumber here this morning for yet another go at fixing the leak around the chimney. The trouble with the last wave of dripping water down on to the top of the heater was while we had high winds with the rain. Hopefully, the new treatment of glue or whatever it is that he uses, works.
