    Hi all

    Sorry about your bash @Hostafan1.
Thank you so much for the lovely collection of Colocasias which arrived this morning, just about to go and pot them up. Considering what you are going through, your thoughtfulness is quite amazing.

Very cold and foggy all morning but it's finally lifting and a bit of sun is peering thru.  Still cold tho.

Sorry about your prang @Hostafan1.  So frustrating and cross making and just more bovver than anyone needs.

Glad you're having a good time @D0rdogne_Damsel and that your potatoes are tasty @Pat E.   @Dovefromabove Chandeleur pancakes marks the presentation of baby Jesus to the Temple.  It is, like other Christian feasts, nicked from pagan ceremonies.  This one heralds the first signs of spring and the making of pancakes was supposed to bless the coming grain harvest and thus a good crop.

Living here I get 3 Mothers' Days - UK, Belgium and France, so I don't see why we can't have 2 pancake days.

wow, that's impressive from Royal Mail. It didn't even take 24 hours.
They should romp away this year. I know they're a bit small now.

  • @didyw where are the hooky things?  Do you have a cat?  When he moved house my son found everything that'd ever gone missing (including his lodger's rather expensive pens) under the cooker.  It turned out that Doorak the big ginger cat loved to roll things to the edge of the table and watch them drop then slide them under the furniture when no one was looking.

@Hostafan1 - crikey!  What an awful thing to happen.  Glad you are OK but - quelle bummeur!
@Dovefromabove. We used to have a cat.  But I don't think that is a factor in the great mysterious hooky thing vanishing act.  Just checked under the cooker.  Nope.

@didyw Terry Pratchett had a theory that all airing cupboards are connected by wormholes, which is how individual socks are able to be transported around the world so you lose one of a pair and acquire single ones that you know you never bought as a pair. It is possible that a similar but more transient phenomenon can occur around other pieces of furniture. I have a box in the cupboard here that's full of picture hanging bits and bobs. Possibly yours are in there now. It's quite a big box
