Morning Ruby, Chive, Busy, T'Bird, Biglad and Dove.. You are so right about the games Ruby - a lovely distraction describes them perfectly. Don't feel too bad about not knowing Bruno was in distress. Cats a very good at giving the impression they are fine.
Busy, earlier you told us you were going to stay with friends on Thursday so is this another nice meet up you are having today?
T'Bird I'm sowing Aubrieta Royal Blue, Royal Violet and Cascade, Arabis Snowcap and Alyssum Basket of Gold. Yes, indeeed, moguls are another knee nightmare! My bins are due to be emptied tomorrow. Will have to wedge them in the hedge.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Hi all. I've been confined to indoor tasks these past few days mainly due to the awful weather, but have managed to venture into town for some shopping earlier today before the forecast storm which 'll arrive with a vengeance some time this afternoon. I'm beginning to realise how chatty this thread is and being hopelessly behind with news, I'll simply wish everyone well, for better days if things are tough at the moment and happy gardening for those lucky enough to be blessed with reasonable weather.
Saga of the case. Handy brother decided that he wasn't going to wait for the Estate Agents to call him when the case was delivered to them so today he went around himself to Mum's old bungalow. The lady who greeted him is the lady who bought the bungalow all those years ago. She is an invalid and works from home hence her need for a bungalow. She was happy to see my brother, saying that she was a bit hesitant about taking it to the Estate Agents in case it didn't get passed on to the family.
The case was covered in flight labels from Air Malta (where Mum and Dad lived after he retired) and British Airways. Inside the case were all items of Dad's uniform: his great coat and peaked cap, his dress suit with waistcoat and shirt, several cummerbunds and bow ties and epaulettes. I cannot wait to see them! The dress shirt had some water staining on it so brother is going to sling it in the wash.
Handy brother gave the lady a brief potted history of the family. She said that she was very happy in the bungalow but was aware that there was always a kind 'presence'. Brother said to me that maybe it will have left the bungalow now he has regained the case!
He was able to pass on our gratitude for her kindness.

Afternoon @janetfoss & @Ladybird4 Β Β Β Β So glad your brother now has the case. Don't blame him for going to the bungalow. Must have been a much nicer way to get back your Dads belongings. Such lovely memories for you, all his uniform and other personal items ππ I'm sure the lady was thrilled to be able to give your brother the case in person too. I wonder if the 'presence' has 'travelled' along with your brother.Β Hope you don't have to wait too long before you can see everything LB.
The weather brightened up during the morning and I spent a little while in the garden. Pulled a few weeds out and also picked up a few fallen bits of the oak tree. Mostly twiggy bits, but the odd larger pieces. Noticed a few mole hills in the back part of the garden. Will have to get OH to put something down there to hopefully get rid of thoseπ£ The Snowdrops looked so pretty all around the garden and my Winter rhodidendron is full of flower too. Can see other plants starting to come to life, shame the grass is too wet and boggy to cut. Looks a bit untidy and could do with a trim. The sky has gone quite dark this afternoon and it's quite windy now. Hope it's not going to get too bad.Β
Lovely pics SGLπ Noticed that the crocus (the few not dug up by squirrels...) were all opened up this morning. That and the snowdrops are a cheery sight. don't think any cyclamen are out at the moment - hope they're still there. Much prefer coum to hederifolium.
Rubee - poor old Bruno - except he's not so old is he? I think we all understand what you mean about feeling guilty for not realising he was in pain but LB is right - cats are very good indeed at hiding pain and discomfort.
When Harry developed a very sore mouth he enjoyed homemade tuna soup (ie zuzzed up tuna with a bit of hot water). I also found a highly calorific convalescent food from the vets very useful. It comes in small tins and looks (and smells!) a bit like chicken liver pate or liver sausage. It has a very soft, pastey texture so can be eaten with a sore mouth. It can also be mixed with a little hot water to make it more lappable (is that even a word????). Very rich in nutrients etc so a little can go a long way to keeping a cat well nourished.
LB - how exciting to find all those bits belonging to your father. It will be interesting to know if you get a slight scent of your dad from the clothes. I have a dress scarf which belonged to my mum. Even 20 plus years after she died I could still get the slightest whiff of her perfume. It was so evocative I couldn't ever bring myself to wash it.
@Biglad - don't think there's much danger of my garden bin running away even in these gales. I did do some work outside and the bin is now rammed, packed down and rammed some more - rinse and repeat. It was all I could do to haul it to the pick up point. Will probably need to be out there a bit sharpish once it's been emptied though!
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
No - mine is pretty full now as well @Topbird. First collection isn't for another fortnight either. I've just rung to ask when the labels get sent out (without which, they won't collect) to be told, "next week and the week after". Nothing like cutting it fine is there Β
