I wanted a specific Amalanchier for a rejuvenated spot along the back border, and had asked last year to be informed when one was available. Sadly, nothing until this autumn, so I went to the nursery yesterday to see what they had [ and to test my sore leg/bum for a drive] but nothing really suitable. Went to B&Q on the way home for some grit, and they had two lovely specimens of A. canadensis - as we were mentioning the other day on a thread @Dovefromabove :)
Job done, and at a smashing price. Appeals to my tight Scottish nature  :D
A slight problem re the grit though. I stupidly didn't take one of the flat bed doofers, and had stuck the bag into the ' child seat' at the handle. It promptly slid and got stuck, mostly on the little loop for hanging a bag. Could I get it out? Could I ****. Just as well I have plastic boxes in the boot. A hole made in the bottom of the bag, and a nice waterfall of grit into the box sorted it...

It fits the bill nicely @Dovefromabove  :)
Manhandling it into the car was tricky. Just as well I can fold seats down and have plenty of plastic bags to stop the soil falling out.....
Didn't stop the water in the bottom of the pot though  :D

Digitalisation has made me very happy this week.

A couple months ago we received a road tax refund cheque for about £80 from the DVLA. I tore a paying in slip from the back of a cheque book and posted the cheque and slip to my bank. A week or so later, the cheque hasn't shown up in our bank account. Thinking it through the cheque book must be about 20 or 30 years old ( :# time does fly), we further discovered the address of my bank in Coventry has now changed to the bank's customer service centre. Trying to track the cheque down was futile, the only option was to write to DVLA asking to write another cheque (that's if it hasn't been cashed elsewhere). Post COVID the DVLA are months behind in their admin... we're not holding our breath for a quick response.

When another cheque arrived from a supplier for £40, I dreaded having to go especially into town to cash the cheque in a branch. Lightbulb moment: I remember seeing 'Deposit cheque' on my banking app. Wondering how this might work I tentatively investigated. It was brilliant, taking just moments, and the cheque was cleared the next day, and not the usual 3 banking days. This made me very cheerful!

During the week I received a text message from my GP telling me to download an app to my mobile phone and to wait for a kit to arrive in the post. The kit was for a urine sample. At 'first piddle' this morning I followed the app's instructions. It couldn't have been easier. My phone's camera recorded the results and sent them to my GP. As the results were 'outside of the normal range' the app told me my GP will be contacting me via phone, text or letter. Amazing!

These were both brilliant experiences and has saved me 'the now' expensive trips into town and to the doctor's surgery.  I'm very cheerful!

It's stupid how the small things make me feel good. I tend to forget that 99% of humans are decent people just trying to live, love and not cause any damage to anyone else. Kindness ripples like Covid - we should have a 'bring a smile to a stranger's face' day - and call it 'everyday day'.

"What goes around comes around" @steveTu ... I find we get out of life what we put into it.  I was reared on Tom and the Water Babies ... Mrs 'Do as you would be done by' :) and Mrs 'Be done by as you did'  :(

I'm not religious, but I liked the change in the Bible from proscriptive commandments to 'do unto others'.

@Jenny_Aster You should have put a couple of drops of food colouring in the sample before you photographed it.  That would have got your GPs attention. :D
