No snow here @Busy-Lizzie but it is cold and this is the 7th day we've woken up to heavy frosts and heavy mists and low cloud.  We did briefly see a bit of sun on Monday after midday but that was it.

Hope your headache eases up @D0rdogne_Damsel.  Sounds a lot like stress and tension to me so rest and a massage, if you can get one, should help.

Still in gardening possible here as the ground was so wet before this cold spell it is now too cold and heavy to weed or plant.   Shopping then.  I need new wellies and OH needs new slippers and we need new water glasses after a few breakages.

    Have a good day everyone.

Glad you're clear so far @Busy-Lizzie ... the problem with Covid is the knock-on effects for family carers re work etc.

I'm really enjoying the way Ken Bruce is playing The Divine Comedy's lastest release every morning ... fabulous!  B)

  • Morning from  wet and windy Wales. Oh to jet off to some sun!
I arranged to meet friends for lunch on the 20 Jan, thinking that is NEXT week. I got a shock to realise it is actually this week! Time blurs when you have no appointments!
Hub has asked to go out somewhere for a short drive - he may change his mind with the weather like this.
Hope all the sufferers are soon better

  • You are all right, I am very tense, in a permanent state of worry/fretfulness/planning/forward thinking/making lists of what's needed...it is just ongoing.

The new person that started on Sunday was asking all about entitlements to sick pay and unemployment benefits and how to avoid paying tax, I'm afraid I don't like that way of thinking....I said to her if you do a job well then you won't be needing unemployment benefits because you'll have a job...we all have to pay taxes..... There is no way of paying cash in hand so I'm not sure she wants the job. I don't want someone to work for us until they have earned enough to be entitled to unemployment benefit and then therefore leave. .....

So, still not solved the staff issue.... another worry. Not worth making my myself ill over though.

Trying to relax with a crossword.

    Still snowing.

@D0rdogne_Damsel, that definitely sounds very stress related, you are really in need of that holiday! I used to get similar symptoms before I finally retired. Combination of mental stress plus having to use my neck and back at odd angles. Try and nurture yourself a bit if you can.
@Penny_Forthem, I can quite sympathise with you, re dates. My diary has a page per day, so I only see two days at a time. I tend to write in it at night, so unless I make a point of looking ahead, I don’t always get much warning. Didn’t look at Tuesday till Monday night, luckily in time to send an email for a friends birthday on Tuesday.
Fortunately I looked ahead last night, as I had a thyroid blood test booked for 9.30 this morning, which I had completely forgotten about. Had to set the alarm to make sure I was up and showered in time!

    Dull here again today.

We had a sparkling morning on Monday - out with the dog just before the wolf moon set

Haven't had a hard frost since then though.

January - meh. I'm back into the routine, walking, working, cooking. Jenny is still here, still seems fine so far. We're not walking her but she seems happy to doze on her sofa while we take the other one out - at least I'm getting my exercise again. I miss it when I don't walk for a day or two.

    So on we go

You're quite right to question that employee's attitude @D0rdogne_Damsel, not only is it illegal to pay cash here, it means she won't be entitled to a pension or sick pay. Short sighted of her. Also worrying if she has that attitude. My son had a receptionist who was paid legally but she stayed just long enough to get sick leave then managed to persuade her doctor to give her a certificate and she was off work for a while, leaving my son in the lurch. She was seen about town, didn't seem ill at all.
