I’ve started on the pond today! Need to fiddle with the shape a little to get it more like I marked out, but I’m so excited! I’ve just ordered the liner so hoping to make lining and filling it my easter weekend job. Just need to decide if I want to edge it with slate or cobbles, I think I’m leaning towards cobbles!

Most of the digging done, I think I’m going to lower the height of the shelf on the right, I’ll wait until I have a pond basket that’s going here so I can check the height

Got some cobbles and pebbles today, and ordered some plants! Everything is so expensive at the moment, I’m quite glad this is my last big garden job for this year!! I have most of the plants for around the pond, so hopefully won’t be more than a couple of filler ones here and there to add. Do think I’m going to have to buy some lupins as the ones I’ve lovingly raised from seed seem to be dying on me :(

I’m interested in the plants. 👍🏼

Did you use the wool packaging underneath in the end or did your liner come with underlay?

Did you tuck and french your liner ends or just hold it down with the rocks? 🤔

That looks like a thoroughly professional job @zugenie!  Very inviting for new homemakers - have you spotted any yet?

I will get a list together!! The liner came with 1/2 price underlay, and said it was only guaranteed if underlay was used, so I went for the premium stuff (was only about £20) the pond liner calculator was way overzealous, I double layered the pond liner in the end because I had so much and still had almost 5m left!!

I just trimmed the edges and put the cobbles on top, I’ve seen people on youtube who do it for a living trim it right to the edge of the pond so I figured I’d be ok trimming it to the cobbles, ground here is so soft that it wouldn’t really hold it anyway!

@Plantminded thank you very much! You are too kind :) only a diving beetle so far, the wood pigeons have been using it for a drink and a bath, hopefully the little birds will follow once their suspicion of ‘the new thing’ has gone! There’s not a ton of cover around the pond until stuff grows in but hopefully something finds it’s way anyway!
