Sorry LB just missed your post, I really did enjoy not having a phone for a day, it is the various messages that keeps me checking it regularly normally. I hope all goes well with Lily’s return visit to the vet tomorrow, hope you are able to transport her without too much distress for you both!
Afternoon all. Thank you for all your kind thoughts and best wishes.
We're not much further forward with the m/home beyond authorising the work. Just wish we knew that spending all this money would definitely sort out the problems - but we don't. Metal shavings have almost certainly gone right through the engine and, without stripping the whole engine down and rebuilding the engine, (which this workshop can't do) we have no way of knowing how much further damage has been / could still be done.
It's a bit of a nightmare but we're trying to keep it in perspective. Nobody's ill, everyone's safe and we have a warm and comfortable home with plenty of food. Things could be much worse. Very much a first world problem. Onwards and upwards.
LB - It is shocking to read of that food wastage but I do remember reading Billy Connolley's autobiography. Apparently he stayed in a Scottish B&B and ordered porridge for breakfast. The landlady offered him porridge Royale which he accepted without thinking. Apparently the teaspoon or so of whisky in double cream was enough to set that recovering alcoholic tumbling off the wagon for a couple of weeks. Even a residue of alcohol may be a potential problem for some people.
I wonder why somebody can't drop them off at or collect them for a local retirement home or similar? It seems almost criminal to put them in the bin - especially when (probably) the majority of people using food banks are families who don't have a problem with alcohol.
Ante - hope Rose is ok after her trip tothe vets tomorrow. Same for Lily LB. I've enjoyed a LONG cuddle with Oliver (the neighbour's cat) today. He's a real sweetie.🥰
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
I agree, LB, alcohol evaporates during cooking, especially when cooking something like jam. What a waste if the food bank won't give it out. I hope the person who didn't turn up is OK.
The bath is in place and the horrid, leaky, black shower cabinet has gone. The bathroom looks bigger and lighter. Not finished yet though, back tomorrow. Man came to collect the garden tractor. He had a portable battery and jump leads.
I've put up another nesting box in the garden, that makes three. I hope somebody uses them. The birdies are getting through fat balls at a rate of knots.
The driveway repairing digger man was supposed to come today, he didn't and he's not answering the phone.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Ante time passes so quickly with Rose being due for her stitches out. I’m sure she’ll get lots of attention from you. I hope she’ll be well rested. LB I hope all goes well for you and Lily also tomorrow. I will be thinking about the all of you. Chive a day without our phones or tablet or laptop for some could seem a long time. We are so use to being on hand. I hope you had a good day. LB yes it does seem to lack sense throwing away strawberry jam with champagne. I’m sure one of your shoppers would have really appreciated the treat as I can’t think there will be that many. Also a worry when someone doesn’t make it for their necessities. Youre helping with a much needed service. I hope you can relax and unwind now after your day. Lily will have been pleased to have you home and good to spend time with bestie. I had a chilli for tea. Very warming, microwave I’m afraid and just having a cup of tea.
@Busy-Lizzie so pleased the plumber arrived and has taken out the old shower and bath is now in place. Hope your son and grandson are on the mend. And you're ok too. @Ladybird4 can't bare wasting food. Such a shame those items were thrown away. Surely once cooked there's hardly any alcohol left. There must be someone that would be able to have it. Surely as a last resort the volunteers could have it rather than be thrown in the bin. That's someone's money wasted too. Perhaps they should have a large notice up stating unacceptable items. Hope the person who didn't turn up is ok. @Topbird hope you get a better nights sleep tonight. @Ante30 glad Rose is feeling better. Hope all goes well at the vets tomorrow. I have Chosya and Spirea in the garden too, they're really lovely. @Songbird-1 glad you've got a hair appointment now. Mine feels so much better.
Kinds gone blank, sorry to all I've missed. Night night everyone sleep well and sweet dreams.

Have come downstairs for a cup of tea. Hope you're all in the land of nod. See you later.
