  • I'm just impressed with my acrobatic twisting @Allotment Boy ... I've never been 'acrobatic' and I've often watched Tom Daley, and those floor gymnasts and wondered what those sort of sideways twisting somersaults felt like ... well, now I know ๐Ÿคฃ

Afternoon people,oh dear Dove, you are going to hurt tomorrow! I did the Same thing in our last house,(1930s big old cast iron bath) shape of it really difficult for mat. I had to use oil based cleansing stuff for eczema, and slipped. Incidentally one of my friends daughters is in fact in the GB gymnastics team. Not sure of her last name,(she has her dads) if I remember it,I'll pass it on,she's incredible.

Congratulations @chicky!ย  ย And such good news about your father!
@punkdoc - we were waiting for "the fall" to happen to be able to persuade my MIL to finally agree to moving into a care home.ย  We had had her on a list for our preferred option for a while but when a room came up she refused to go (even though she had liked it when we took her for a visit).ย  But the fall and subsequent stay in hospital meant there was now no question.ย  Luckily a room was available in our second choice, although she had to stay with my SIL for a couple of weeks while they got it ready.ย  But she was happy there - as far as any 90+ year old with dementia can be happy.

@Hostafan1 - when my Dad was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer he was given 'weeks not months'.ย  He insisted that he wanted to be at home.ย  I remember those last two days so vividly.ย  He only took to his bed then and had carers coming in help. There was a commode in the bedroom (Mum stayed with him, sleeping with him in the bed) and I remember helping him, with Mum, to use it.ย  Wiping his bottom felt like an enormous privilege to me and I was grateful for that level of intimacy with my father before we all lost him forever.ย  We were all in a loving, caring bubble.
When Mum's time came she was in hospital.ย  We were with her at the end and it was special to be with her as she died but it less personal somehow.
I think for me though, I would want to be in hospital.ย  If my OH outlives me he couldn't cope and my daughter would be far too bossy.ย  If I outlive my OH - I think he'd be better off in hospital as our little house just isn't equipped to deal with such things.

Wow @D0rdogne_Damsel - look at all those cakes!ย  Sorry about the cancellations and the changes in flights.ย  Here we go again...

    Oo'er @Dovefromabove.ย  I can't bear those mats - I stand on a flannel in the shower.

Sorry my post got a bit long - haven't been on for a few days.ย  I wasn't supposed to be here now as I booked in to do a 2-day craft fair in a tiny village hall in the Saints this weekend.ย  (The extremely rural area to the south of us).ย  I actually went around the Saints on Thursday with the community bus we are trialling putting up boards with the timetable at the places it stops.ย  The trial isn't going very well - just one or 2 people each week so clearly not much demand for it.ย  But the Saints (so called because all the tiny parishes are named after St. this or that church - there are loads of churches!), is so beautiful I'm now thinking - hmm, what about excursions for tourists in the summer...ย  Anyway, halfway through yesterday as I was frantically trying to get some paperwork finished before prepping for this weekend I realised a) I wasn't feeling all that well and b) I simply didn't have time.ย  So I had to cancel and oh boy did I feel relieved after I had done that.ย  I hate to let people down, but they get to keep my pitch fee to help the village hall and I get to have a more restful weekend.

And the bathroom will get cleaned.ย  Should be doing that now but popped on here for a bit of prevarication.

Oh Dove. Iโ€™ve just read your post. I hope youโ€™re not too sore tomorrow. ย Since my fall a couple of months ago, Iโ€™m ok, but itโ€™s obvious that my neck is still out and I have to be careful how fast I get up from a chair. Get giddy easily. ย  Luckily our shower is in a corner of the bathroom and not over a bath, so the floor is flat and not slippery. ย Take care.

    night all.

Lovely present just arrived in the post........ next years Chilterns catalogue, hours of happy reading, with a glass of something, wonder what new things I will try next year.
I still sometimes marvel at my collection of coppiced Eucalyptus that I grew from what I was sure was a pile of dust from Chilterns.

  • Just popping in to say thanks for all your kind wishes folks. OHs boss sent him home as soon as she heard, so heโ€™s here to keep an eye on me. ย Iโ€™ve got my Chilterns catalogue to keep me amused too @punkdoc ๐Ÿ˜Šย

Poor Dove. I was just wondering this week whether it was time to get OH to install a handrail in the walk in shower. Always resisted anything that smacked of disability before we need it, but I was trying out a sample of an oil based shower gel, and noticed the tray was certainly a bit slippy.ย Hope the bruises fade quickly.ย
Hope everyone else is continuing to cope? Rather worried that we havenโ€™t heard from Sam Bevington recently.
On a brighter note, what a wonderful display of cakes, Damsel! And belated congrats, Chicky.

    Hello everyone,

Poor you @Dovefromabove, sounds just like the kind of things I do. We're lucky to have a walk in shower with a non-slip base in the en-suite but I try to be extra careful in there anyway. The main bathroom has a shower over the bath which has a silicone mat and we tend to leave that stuck down.ย  Ours is washable if it gets mucky. Hope you're not too bruised tomorrow, it's a horrid shock when you fall.

I've just ordered another larger saucepan by phone and the company rep was very efficient in updating my email address and sending me another copy of the original receipt which had vanished into the ether. The saucepans have a ten year guarantee so I need to keep both receipts somewhere safe.

After driving OH as near to the pub as I could get where he's meeting his former colleagues for a bit of a do, I actually got out in the garden to do some clearing up. The Council have promised us one extra collection to make up for the earlier missed one so I now have two full bins ready to go.

Do you think you're trying to do too much @Didyw, perhaps time to slow down for a few weeks? it's a great shame about the poor take-up of the community bus but perhaps not the best time of year for a trial, summer might be better? Having said that, I haven't seen our local 'Asda' weekly bus lately either. They probably paused it because of Covid.

Having promised us some milder weather this weekend, it seems it's going to be wet and windy again. Glad I got the clearing up done.
