Was aware of noisy rain and wind in the night, but pretty well slept through till 7 am. Sky has now cleared, and sun out, only 6C though. Jay and crows waiting for their breakfast on the tree outside the bedroom window.

Had a look around the garden and got in more logs. It's very wet and there have been frosts, dahlias are black. The birds have eaten the 10 fat balls I put out before I left. They hadn't ever been fed before I came so I'm glad they found them.

  • Son has dropped hints for his upcoming birthday ... apparently it's very cold managing a mobile Covid Testing Centre on the Suffolk and Essex coasts 🧊 ... and getting his washing dry is a bit tricky with the short turnaround he has between shifts ... more thermal undies have been ordered.Β Β  ;)

Morning all, or should that be good afternoon?Β  Had a a bit of a lie in, breakfast in bed as usual and have done nothing so far bar refilling the bird feeders. OH's nephew has already emailed us heart-warming photos of the party, so good to meet up with everybody.

Enjoy your lunch @Busy-Lizzie, sorry your granddaughter is not well.

Seems snow may well be on the way for some of us. I must admit it doesn't look very inviting out there, windy, damp and grey. Ought to prune some roses but don't feel in the mood. New brushed cotton bed linen which arrived yesterday is having a quick wash then I can change the bed tomorrow. Hope they'll be toastie, not had them since childhood. It was called flannelette then wasn't it?

Enjoy the rest of today everyone.

    Afternoon all.
Had a lie in then a blast outside removing leaves from pond, clearing windfall apples and a bit of tidying. Bracing but very therapeutic.

Oo brushed cotton sheets are cosy. Anyone tried the fleecy/teddy bear bedding? I was umm’ing whether to purchase (I’m thinking cat hair magnet).Β

Off to see MIL’s puppy then will be settling in with a new jigsaw. Have a good day folks.Β

    Hi all

Just been for a very short walk around the botanical gardens, certainly blew a few cobwebs away.

  • Hi all, grey and wet here. I was hoping to start shredding the Apple prunings today.Β  I got ndn gardeners to do the pruning yesterday , but said I would shred them myself.Β  I know I should prune the old Bramley myself & I have done it in the past,Β  but they are so much quicker than me, and they clear up as they go.Β

I haven't even started our apple tree pruning yet, so you're street ahead of me @Allotment Boy . It's a good idea to get the professionals in for jobs like that. I'm thinking more and more about employing someone to help me in the garden.

Is that the Botanical Garden in Sheffield @Punkdoc? I used to visit the one in Oxford with my daughter when she lived there and found it inspiring. Seems like you might be on the mend at long last. That was a very nasty virus you had by all accounts.

I looked at the teddy bear bed linen @AuntyRach but thought immediately of fluff everywhere, speaking of which, I've just taken a big handful of the stuff out of the tumble dryer filter. I've very carefully put it in an open container on its side under a small bush in the hope that my little jenny wren finds it.

Yes it is @Lizzie27, we are lucky to have it only ten miles away, as it is a very impressive place and fantastic for people in the city who don’t have Gardens.
