  • A friend near Salisbury Plain has just said there’s large snowflakes swirling around her garden  :o

We had heavy winds, blew a couple of flower lots around (Cheshire). No snow, and a bright sunny day now, although a little cold. Wouldn't have known it was a big storm if the media hadn't gone nuts about it.

It was bad for parts of the north east coast.

    It was horrendous!

Power has just come back on. I can go home now (been keeping warm in the Metro Centre coffee shops).

    Glad you're ok James  :)

You might have a different viewpoint if you lived in one of the affected areas @seacrows. Barns on railway lines, trees down on cars/roads, roofs off houses, people dead, snow gates closed, and 80+ mph winds.
I'd say that was fairly serious weather.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • We won't be going anywhere for a while! The little road that passes the farm gate (half a mile away) is blocked, even featured on the local Police Rural crime /info page this morning, as they had to rescue stranded motorists. The farm track itself is currently clear, having been ploughed by the farmer this afternoon, but the shorter one between us and the farmyard is full of drifted snow, which is still being blown everywhere.
No damage though, the birds and sheep have been fed, our meal for tonight is ready to be re-heated and the stove is lit, so all is currently well in my little world.
The greenhouse has a nice insulating blanket and the need for food has attracted some less frequent visitors to the bird feeders: some bramblings and a couple of starlings that don't usually come into the garden, while my daughter was greeted by a reed bunting when she gave the sheep their hay.

We’ve got beautiful snow flurries now. I say beautiful only when compared to last night’s horror show!

I’ll be moaning about it if it lays and stops me from going out tomorrow 😂

    Here’s to a good night’s sleep @Songbird-1

Yes @Fire, but fortunately it didn't last long before turning into sleety rain. I've just discovered the wind had blown the arbour over, fortunately it fell into the hedge behind. A climbing rose had been tied to the top of it which probably didn't help much. I've had to cut two large branches off in order to upright the arbour. It's a bit top heavy at the best of times. Otherwise we're okay. Son has been and is on his way home. He's promised to text me when he gets there.

I have been through that sort of weather (memorably walking a mile in tracks the RAF had cleared through the over-the-head show drifts to get to the barracks. They met all the students headed for St. Andrews off the train and gave them a choice, one mile in cleared tracks vs.  20 miles of deep snow.)
It's just -Manchester, windy and cold vs. Sheffield (my dad's snowed in and leccy just got back. ) Such a difference over so short a distance.
Weather forecasts are saying we won't stay out of it long though, next icy blast we're in the firing line. I may take this opportunity to put slabs on the floor of the new shed before chucking in anything moveable.

We're also in Cheshire but woke up to this. Lost power in the night but luckily it was back on this morning. Had to sleep with earplugs in. It's trashed the garden.

    Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border

I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
