Good morning all đ âïžÂ thinking of your MIL @punkdoc and all who are in a similar situation. Thank goodness your BIL has managed to get there ⊠I hope something can be sorted for her very soon.Â
Nowadays so many homes donât have an open fire ⊠we donât, but we live on the edge of a city. Before I moved here I always lived in very rural, even quite isolated places and we always had an open fire and/or a solid fuel range so that when the power was off we could keep ourselves warm and fed. I would feel very vulnerable if I lived in the countryside without the wherewithal to do that.Â
Cold and icy here this morning with snow in the wind. Nevertheless OH has set off on his bike to pick up some odds and ends ends from the shop in the village. Heâd rather go now than when more folk are about. Itâs what heâs done for the past two years nearly and itâs kept us safe so far, so not going to change now.Â
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
A balmy 3°C for us this morning, but at least the sun has come up, as has the wind.  Will try and get a dr's appointment for this week after a weekend of ear ache and sore throat.  I am staving it off with essential oils and salty herby gargles.  No headache or temperature. Â
Has your BIL managed to sort out your MIL @punkdoc ?  Not very nice being alone in that situation.  Was reading @TheGreenMan  's thread about the Arwen.  He seemed rather fearful during the storm.
I have an open fire @Dovefromabove - it is a godsend - although the central heating is on and at 20°C during the day, the light the fire produces is a presence on a gloomy rainy day.
@floralies  Glad to hear good news about your boy.  A step forward.
Good morning everyone, bright frosty start here. Hope all those with various travails have a better day today. We are due to meet friends for lunch today, guessing it's better now, before we all get locked down again.Â
Morning all,a quick dip in here.fab sunny day but was -2 when I got up. Anyone on here ever dried a pomegranate? I bought a cheap as chips wonky veg box,it's got a pomegranate, don't like them, says online 5 hours at 150c any short cuts, thought it would go nicely with hand made decorations.Â
Morning all. Icy here and I'm not looking forward to going into town later to have my eyes tested. Don't like cold weather at all.
Hope your BIL can sort something out @Punkdoc for MIL, not a nice situation to be in but some older folk can be surprisingly stoic under those conditions.
Right, better get breakfast, OH is still snuggled down in bed.
Good morning Forkers. Bright and sunny here but perishing cold in the wind so feels below freezing.  Patch morning for me sorting out the Xmas prezzies we'll be giving all the members and then workshop this pm and masked all day so I won't be going to mosaic class afterwards. Two more hours of masking is step too far for me.
I hope everyone gets their power back today and can get warm and cook. This house has two log burners and we have gas hobs so we'll be OK if there's a power cut but the leccy people have been by and fixed all the mess of branches on lines that the council chappy left so we should be OK for a while.
Good morning all, slight snowfall over night, just been out to de-ice the pond, I didn't put the pond heater in.....silly me. I hope your family can be sorted quickly @punkdoc that all sounds pretty grim. We have plenty of wood for the log burner, all of it well seasoned, we have never had to light it in November before, the weather is very strange indeed.

@Obelixx @Busy-Lizzie - No.  No cafeterias at GCs for the simple reason, France is one big café - it would take the custom away from them.  We often meet at our local café for a pain au chocolat or croissant - it's "social".  Every country has its traditions.  NZ is the same as the UK - huge cafeterias at GCs.
Have an enjoyable day all.

There is a little bit of snow on the roof but it hasn't settled on the ground.
I hope BIL can do something about keeping MIL warm @punkdoc. I wonder how many elderly people are in the same situation.

No cafés near me @floralies and none near the GCs I use either.  Villages here seem not to be able to keep their cafés going so all either closed or not desirable.

Stay safe and warm everyone.
