Hope Possum has a great holiday @Obelixx.  Edinburgh is great fun (tell her to go to the real Mary King close if she can …..fascinating glimpse into a world hundreds of years ago).

Yes @Lizzie27 , Chicklet is leaving Bournemouth…… one of the reasons for the anticipated tears 😭.  She has loved it there and would love to stay, but the new job is an exciting opportunity for her.

Funny you mention Mary King Close: One of Hubby's care staff was in Edinburgh at the weekend and she loved visiting MKC and Edinburgh generally

Not sure I'd swop Bournemouth for Reading even so.

Who or what is Mary King Close?

It's said, the close was full of Plague, so they bricked it up and left them all to die. Edinburgh City Chambers is no sitting on top of it.
    Devon.

I think the bricking up thing has been debunked as a myth ……they transported them to sanatoriums outside the city walls instead.

Basically, when they built the City Chambers in the 1800s they used the tenements that were already there as foundations and just built on top of them.  Literally on top of them, without filling anything in.    So three or four storeys below City Chambers, the original streets and houses still exist.  Its fascinating.  We were a bit worried it was going to be one of those hammy “Ghost tours” but it wasn’t……..would highly recommend it.

I know, which is why is started with " it's said "
Moving them to a sanatorium doesn't work so well on a wee ghosty tour though

  • Mum Hootie and her 12 mth old daughter,  wounded soldier Tula2  in the scruffy snug this evening...we're cosy in the snug but do wish OH would clean the glass before lighting the burner!!

No tunes in the MRI, just the lovely Radiographer interjecting with "now Sam it's going to get really loud", was expecting AC/DC or Motorhead, better still Sweet Child of Mine!
#Dove, have seen some lovely dresses on the Next occasions page for the Gala dinner on NY's eve in Mauritius 🇲🇺...have spent the last number of years keeping my late Mum topped up with G and Ts and watching Hoot.
Had first Senior Mgt Meeting today at the Uni, felt most self important as Head of Compliance...need to ditch the Spaniels and get a lovely, long haired white cat to stroke slowly!!
  • Oooh @SamBevington just love that metallic green column dress 💚

Be careful what you wish for!  Our short-haired white cat and the ginger Labrador both leave hairs everywhere.  Every day, whether brushed or not.

Possum, educated in French and creative with English spelling, has texted to say she arrived at Stanstead in one "peace".   I have sent her a suitable message.  Have also told her about Mary King Close.
