@Obelixx I think it was @tui34 who was talking about cafes. @tui34 I hope the earache resolves itself quickly, don't forget to wear a hat if it's cold!

    Whoops @Obelixx   A senior moment there!  :)

It's a freezing wind here @floralies coming down from the norf!    Head band and woolly hat - hung out some washing then couldn't help myself - I get caught up in the garden!

Morning all. We had a surprise light dump of snow last night, just a few centimetres but enough to cover over all the garden debris that needs sorting. The snow is my fault apparently for fitting the winter tyres to the car last week. Opened the curtains to find our roe deer browsing, very picturesque.

Morning all.  Back from the doc's for flu jab, blood test and blood pressure monitoring.  All very efficient but glad I needed to check with the receptionist about another problem as I hadn't been 'arrived' by the automatic arrival screen for the blood test - she had to 'arrive' me for that. I would have been sitting there like a wally still.  Covid booster next week.
Lovely and bright out there but cold.  And no gardening for me today as still much to do for the Christmas market on Sunday.  My new apple tree arrives soon though - will need to get that planted in as soon as it comes.

It was raining when I threw a dust sheet over the car yesterday around 6pm. This morning at 5.30 I removed it like a shell and stood it against the wall: totally frozen solid.

No heating, no cooking, no hot water. BIL says it is really grim.
Sorry @punkdoc only just saw this. Hoping it's now resolved but if not and for future reference, telephone number 105, which is primarily for reporting power outages, you can also use to tell the supplier that there is a vulnerable person at a specific address. They have resources (via the Red Cross) to go out to people who need help and provide some assistance. The power company won't know that help is needed if you don't report it but once you have, they generally keep a register of their 'at risk' customers

That's good to know @raisingirl, I thought that assistance was available from somewhere but couldn't remember who. I was going to suggest calling either social services, Age UK or a local church for help. My GP was surprised I hadn't called the surgery when the first lockdown was imposed and we needed a food supply but it never dawned on me that they could help.

I'm pleased to say that my eye test was all ok and I didn't need new glasses. Slightly surprised at that because my bifocals are 6 years old now. I didn't press it as I had had a quote earlier this morning for £650 to have a new filling and crown done soon. I'd been having toothache over the weekend in a suspect tooth and the dentist had warned me it was only a matter of time. I'm not looking forward to it at all as it's an upper left molar which isn't going to be easy but better done now than raging toothache over Xmas.

It was bitterly cold this morning waiting for the bus, cold at Specsavers because they were keeping the doors open and there's a lot of waiting around and the bus I came back on didn't appear to have any heating on either. I've been wrapped in a blanket since lunchtime and still don't feel very warm. Hopefully it will be warmer tomorrow.

    Thanks all.

MIL's power finally back on at 15.30 today, BIL cooking her some hot food, but then needs to get home and back to work.
