Morning all, after another dreadful night,up at 7.30, crawled back in with tea and toast. That's strange,my first thought was Punkdoc, did send PM. Reason for last night lack of sleep, couldn't get the thought away of the 6 year old boy abused, starved, killed by his Father and Step mother

Morning all, I was lucky this morning, it absolutely tipped down earlier on,  stopped raining as I got my boots on for my usual walk and I managed to get there and back without getting drowned. The brook was running very fast and a telephone pole in the farmers field beside the lane had fallen down. Fortunately someone had managed to tie the wires up to a higher fence out of the way.
Pleased to hear from my son this morning that they are all okay and nobody else has caught it yet. He may call in tomorrow for a quick socially distanced lunch and to pick up granddaughters presie.

Good to hear from you @Punkdoc, hope you feel better soon.

@Busy-Lizzie, may I ask you please what pain-killers (if any) does your OH take. Mine's just been prescribed codeine as an occasional dose (along with mega boxes of Senocot!) but it appears no better than paracetamol.

  • If I can poke my nose in here @Lizzie27 .... Ma had incredibly painful hips and for various reasons did not and then could not have replacements.  She was prescribed paracetemol and codeine so that she could have pain relief more frequently without overdosing on the paracetemol.  It really helped as it meant that the pain relief was constant rather than 'in waves' .... she was instructed how to take it during a referral to a Pain Clinic and it was incredibly helpful in managing her pain.

@Lizzie27, OH takes Co-codamol prescribed by his GP. It can have a side effect which is treated by a prescribed laxative. It is a mix of codeine and paracetamol.

I had co-codamol years ago for my lumbar slipped disks.   Even then we had a high fibre diet so no need for help.   The only thing that worked when I had the cervical slipped disk was a full opiate based painkiller so I was happy to get the surgery I needed and get off the meds.   These days I alternate 1g paracetamol with 800g ibuprofen when the knee is being particularly stupid.

Cold, grey and now wet here and still the wind chill factor making it feel below freezing.  Goodness knows how the chooks feel now they're moulting heavily.  Pretty Polly and Scruffy are now bald in places and barely covered in others and Fluffy is looking fluffier as her under feathers show more.   Brrr!   Bess and Greta are the only ones not moulting - yet.

Hi @punkdoc.  I agree with @Busy-Lizzie.  Just post on this thread where you have friends and join other threads as and when you feel more able and less fragile.

That photo is so atmospheric @Pat E.  Glad you're getting some decent rain.

  • My father was given soluable co-codamol effervescent tablets,  they didn't really dissolve but made this cloudy liquid.  Supposed to be kinder to the stomach.  He was on them for ages while waiting for his hip replacements. He said they were the only thing that really worked.

Thanks folks for the info on painkillers. My daughter's just told me that codeine has no effect on some people which is interesting.
I've got some paracetamol and codeine tablets in the cupboard which has a useby date of 2018. Should I bin it or do you think it is still okay to use?

I'd use them. Give them a try and see if they work. They'll certainly do no harm

Definitely bin those tablets,  I took some  OOD   Tramal tablets once, I was very ill, shaking dizzy almost passed out.  Took a day to get right.
They don't out dates on for nothing.

  • Tramadol do that to me no matter what the use by date is.
