Belated Happy Birthday to Mrs Biglad. Hope Mr Biglad doesn't have to work too late this evening. Relying on other people to provide all the info you need to meet your deadlines must be very frustrating. As a control freak, I'd be doing my nut...
BL hope you had a stress free journey. Welcome back to England - chilly isn't it?
Yvie - good to see you - fingers crossed things work out well for Secondborn.
LB - hope things have gone ok for Lily - I know she has long term health issues. Must be worrying when she has another bout.
This morning I dug out a bit more of the box parterre hedging. Three quarters done now and that part of the garden looks very different. Not necessarily worse - just different. However, I think I will really miss the structure when all the perennials die back so I'm thinking about some strategically placed yew cones.
I saw something good done at a NT property a few weeks ago. They've also had to remove their dwarf box hedging and they've replaced it with yew balls at each corner and patio roses and alcoholic mollies ๐ as edging between. I could do something similar....
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Hello all. Good to see you Yvie and T'Bird. Back from the Vet's. I was much happier this time as I was allowed to accompany the Munchkin into the surgery - in through the back door and out through the front but at least it meant I could pay whilst I was there rather than ringing up when I got home. Vet listened to her chest and said both her lungs were clear and as I'd got her there quickly she had not needed any antibiotics this time, just some anti inflammatories. She was QUITE good but let's face it, if we met a stranger who spoke a language we didn't understand who then proceeded to stick a thermometer up our bums we'd probably would kick off too. She is still a similar weight to last time which is good. Anyway, after her injection, she got back in her carrier quick sticks when she knew all the manhandling was over. She's forgiven me already bless her. I need a strong cuppa.
Chive, good news about your Mum's leg. She will be dancing the can can before long.
Hazel I hope that you are pleased with your hair cut and are ready now to have a peaceful evening after your horrid night.
Its good to hear that you could get some gardening done Yvie and that you've had a chance to inspect the new man in Secondborn's life.
T'bird, I can understand your view feeling very different but I love the sound of the plan you are thinking of adopting to replace the box.
Biglad I would not like to do your job as I'm fairly useless with numbers. I often wondered how my middle brother got on as an accountant.
Time for that cuppa now.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Thought I was done at 6.30pm - an early dart! My phone pinged 20 mins later to tell me that I had a message from the payroll company. Back to the dining table I go to find that, apparently, we haven't got the funds to pay the crew. That's nothing to do with me (apart from I'm the one who will get the grief if folk don't get paid!). Anyway, it seems we have got the funds. A good, little example of the pointless circles that I go round in. I'm switching everything off again now. Don't care until Sunday, when it all starts again.
Not sure about being appreciated but it pays well folks!
Glad you are pleased with your hair cut Hazel. I have a columnar Taxus baccata Standishii in my back garden and I love it as well as the birds do. Like Hazel, I am signing out too for today. Enjoy your evenings.

Hello from Norfolk. It was great to see OH, but he had to wait over an hour because the plane was late. @Topbird it was the time it gets dark that was more of a shock than the cold!
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

SGL Iโm glad you managed to get the clematis, sounds like a good day. Thank you, I hope you sleep well.ย
I had a good and restful night. It's maybe because I was with my dog in a long, long walk, first time this week. My father is in the hospital waiting to vertebrae surgery. He already had one six years ago and now he must repeat procedure. It's routine surgery so I'm not too much worried. He has appointment at Monday and due to COVID restriction only one person (vaccinated) can visit him. It's my mum but I must drive her.ย ย
I'll go to cottage today and do some necessary jobs. It's not too pleasant outside, but afterall it's not raining. Now first early tea.
