Hello Hosta, hope the world is treating you well. I actually thought about you, watching GW last night the big old Hosta leaves. Had only just got round to watching last weeks

    Good morning all 😊 ☕️
Saturday has arrived … how did that happen?

    Good morning all.
Thank you @Hostafan1, good to be back.

I didn't sleep very well and woke up at 6.30 as we are an hour behind here. It was dark so early last night and now it's almost light. Would be dark now in France. Trying to get used to the English keyboard on OH's laptop.

Going to the Farmer's Market in the Village Hall this morning.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    Hi all

    Welcome home @Busy-Lizzie
Dry cold day here, need to get out there.

@Lizzie27, you are missing the point. Even if it is "only" 6000 cases [ which it isn't ], that would still be 60000 bed days, which is very close to overwhelming the service.
Put another way, it is about 8500 hip replacements which won't be done.

The NHS has been “close to breaking point” every winter for as long as I can remember - long before we had ever heard of Covid.  Something needs to be done about that - Covid is highlighting a fundamental problem.  And just throwing more money at the NHS won’t solve the problem.  Time to put aside our arrogance (why do we always think “our way is always the best way”?) and start looking at ways other countries run their health services and learn a few lessons.  Germany seems to be getting a few things right 🙄.

Been a busy week (but great fun 🤩).  Finally have a day to garden.  Will be planting many bulbs in many pots, and getting some onions, shallots and garlic in the ground.

Welcome back @Busy-Lizzie ……clocks go back soon, so you’ll get light mornings back again.

  • Morning everyone,  I   was just about to log in here when my wife called out. There was a flock of long tailed tits in & out all the shrubs and pots up near the patio, 10 or 12, difficult to count as they flit about so fast. Couldn't get a decent picture.
Glad you are back OK @Busy-Lizzie,  we had pitch black  early mornings most days in France. I hope you have no issues getting your day 2 PCR results.  We got an email late last night,  to get to the answer was just as hard as filling in the locator form . Anyway we are both negative.
I assembled the protection for the Lemons yesterday,  sure sign the cold weather is imminent.

    Good point @chicky.
The problem for some of us, is that the German system is not free at the point of use.

True.  But no-one is denied care because they can’t afford it (unlike in the US).  A hybrid public/privately funded system seems to be dismissed out of hand here - scaremongering screams of “privatising the NHS” and visions of a US style system (which, I agree, is abhorrent) drown out any grown up discussions.  But we can’t go on like this, and maybe Covid will be the trigger for some sensible thinking about how we could improve things in this country.
