Just back from visiting a corner of a local property with my SIL who looks after the grounds. They are developing a glamping/wedding venue. They have a huge area on the other side of their fishing pond (large pond/small lake) where they want some new planting and my SIL has turned to me for ideas as he's good on lawns/hedges etc but not so hot on plants.  What a project!  It is a shady area - north facing, lots of trees but I'm thinking a woodland walk around the back of the summerhouse that looks out onto the lake.  Have taken lots of pics.  May well end up on here asking for planting suggestions.  SIL's job is to clear the area of weeds over the next couple of weeks.   This is one side of it: (sun setting in the west, behind me as I took this pic).

  • After reading RHS advice on Docks, I've given up on trying to get the whole tap root out and managed to get the bugger 6 inches down ! Therefore progress on new beds much quicker, hopefully will be able to place my new shrubs/perennials in a position for me to assess/you lot advise. Two straight beds either side of a path ending in a rustic arche with posts/rope at high level (like Adam Frost did) either side for climbers. After which, a gentle bank into our paddock (not really a paddock, half an acre of tractor mowed lawn edged with huge trees, Oak, Ash, hundreds of years old, with a pond and brook defining our boundary before the land rises to our lovely view of Woodwall Green). Going to try a flower meadow for the bank. Distracted  by Scotland football,  very exciting.  Home made lasagne beckons,  just got to make the cheese sauce, garlic bread, pop it in the oven and watch Strickley!

  • Spent most of day sorting pots and planting bulbs. We should put more in the ground but there's so little space in the borders it's all pots again.

@didyw see if you can get a copy of Beth Chatto's Woodland book - online, library, charity shops.   Lot of lovely plants in there.

I have finished that bag but didn't get any sowing done.  Stupid old phone has kept all my contacts so loads of fun trying to sort that out and put the phone numbers back.  Faff.  But tomorrow I will get some bulbs in and some seeds sown.

Enjoy your arty ventures @Yviestevie.  Hop the gate is OK now @Busy-Lizzie

    Good morning all 😊 ☕️
It’s a mild and overcast morning here in Norfolk … but the sun is bright in the east and it promises to be a fine day although the weather app isn’t as hopeful as I am. We shall see …
Son is visiting this afternoon for roast lamb, parsnips, carrots, roast potatoes and Cavolo nero, so I’d better finish my coffee and head for the shower …. lots to do today …
