Good morning all. It’s raining this morning and has been through the night. LB have a good time with bestie today. It will be good to catch up. Lily I hope you find your coat today. Busy I hope the daffodil planting is not too uncomfortable, one of my favourites. I’m visiting the relllies this morning. Have a good day.
I think my bulb planter get left behind when I moved @Ladybird4. It didn't work very well with clay soil which got stuck in it. I'm going to lift the turf, dig in some grit and compost to the top layer and remove some of the heavier clay below. I'll plant in clumps, not throw the bulbs to plant individually. Some will go in flower beds, some in rough lawn and some under trees.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Just met one of my weekly deadlines so I can relax for a bit before the next one starts looming Only done 50 hours so far this week so I should probably knuckle down
Anyway, the sunflowers have finally decided to open now the wind, rain and hail has arrived Daft buggers! Garden has been getting a bit of a battering but at least the temporary pond is only as far as puddle status. I think I'm making slow progress towards alleviating the problem and being able to plant that area up.
Morning all. Another rough night for me. I now both look and feel like a zombie - I'm so very tired. My cough has finally progressed to a full blown cold so not only do I have a very bad chesty cough I also have head full of snot. Lovely. Think some steam inhalations are needed today to try to soothe my poor tubes.
Have just sent OH out to fill up his camper van with diesel. My car is still nearly full but his van was down to a third. He has to go to a 2 day training seminar in Warwickshire on Tuesday, so I'm hoping he's now got enough fuel to get there and back and a vehicle to sleep in. I am so very grateful to a local neighbourhood forum for keeping people updated with which fuel stations are open and what fuel they have. (Very few and not much...)
The plan was originally for him to take the big motorhome and then I was going to drive up in the car on Wednesday and meet him in Shropshire for a few days over there. It might still happen but the fuel situation needs to be a lot more stable. Getting him to and from the seminar is the priority just now.
BL - hope your back allows you to do some bulb planting. I don't know why but that's one job I hate - it's up there with cutting hedges. Fortunately squirrels and heav clay mean bulbs don't do well here so I have an excuse not to do it🙂
LB - have a lovely time with your bestie. How's her daughter getting on?
Biglad - well done on the work front. You certainly have the right conditions for a bog garden.
Time for a cuppa....
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
TBird ,I am sorry to read that you are poorly . I think you are right ,steam inhaling will help . Do you have one of those plastic mug inhalers with a little mask? They are much easier to use than a towel and bowl .Look after yourself .
Afternoon everyone, back from the big shops. Got stuck in traffic for awhile as people were out in mass trying to get petrol. The petrol station was almost on a round about and all exits were gridlocked 🤦🏻♀️ The police arrived and fortunately let our lane through.....I'm sure being on the bus helped 😉 The police were still there on the way back, the queues were still there but no where near as bad. I bought a coat, some boots and 4 pairs of lovely thickish soft socks.
Oh gawd @Songbird-1 I can imagine how you must have felt when your alarm went off. I'd have been as red as a beetroot 🤭 @Topbird so sorry to hear you're feeling so poorly. Hope you feel much better soon. Have you tried a hot Toddy? Planting bulbs isn't a favourite of mine either, do love to see all the spring flowers though. The squirrels seem to eat mine too, definitely didn't have as many this year. Especially the snow drops. 😫
Back from Bestie's after a good catch up. Gosh Biglad you have still been very busy though. Sounds as if you may be getting on top of the drainage there. Has the fencing gone on the middle burner for now?
T'Bird, I am so sorry to hear that you are still not A1 at all. Steam should help - especially if you have some menthol crystals to add to the water. Maybe it isn't such a good idea to aim to travel to meet up with your OH whilst you are feeling so rough. Bestie's daughter was pleased that her last lot of blood tests were clear but her Doc has advised her not to think about dashing about for another couple of months and then the Doc is going to sort out some physio for her. I think that set her back mentally after the good blood test results. She is going to join us quizzers when we go for our October meal tomorrow. You take care of yourself and get better soon.
Hazel - what a kerfuffle! I found a similar situation to you in that when I filled my car up on Sunday there wasn't any scrambling of drivers but they were out of diesel. When I drove to Bestie's this morning there was a tanker making a delivery.
SGL, I knew a few 'extras' would find their way into your shopping basket. Well done on achieving your goal though. I noticed the other day that something has dug up a pile of my crocus corms in a large pot I've got near the GH. Another job to go on the' to do when it stops raining' list!
Time for a cuppa!
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Well done on your haul SGL - I much prefer shopping for winter clothes - you can hide a lot under chunky layers😉
Hazel - did you wish the ground would just open up when your alarm went off? I can imagine how you felt.
We definitely have a fuel shortage round here. I guess being very rural means fewer petrol stations and much more dependency on private cars. Nearly everyone needs a car to get to work, school or college. There is no public transport at all here and no shop, school or anything in the village. The nearest bus service is only twice a day and is a 6 mile round trip away down unlit country lanes with no pavements. Not complaining - I love rural life - but a car is pretty essential.
OH did get some diesel this morning but he couldn't fill up. They were rationing people to £30 - so he's now 75% full. Bit iffy whether that's enough for him to get to Warwickshire and back. Fingers crossed the situation eases over the weekend.
I'm now sat on the sofa watching trashy TV huddled under the duvet. Struggling to get warm. I hate feeling like this and it's only a rotten old cold - a heavy one - but just a cold. Stop ****ing moaning wumman!!!

Right - back to work!
