I bet @Palustris is regretting starting this thread!  :D
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • @SlipperyElm Tends not to work if repeated too often  :D
Doesn't even work when it's said once, philippa.  But it makes ME feel a whole lot better.  At least somebody noticed it.  I thought repetitive comments were de rigeur on this thread.....
You're right there - we go round in circles and end up at Mornington Crescent more often than not. These threads are rarely as entertaining as the proper article tho  :D

I’m pretty sure our cards actually say you do not need to bring this card with you.

iI agree this is getting repetitive. Final word from me. I have no concern over voter fraud. I have massive concerns over the way this government is behaving.
Some of you have made good points but I am unconvinced.
I will sign petitions and I will be happy that these petitions exist.
    Take care everyone.
  • I just wonder what course this thread would have taken had the title been
    Democratic Electoral Safeguards rather than
    Voting Restrictions

As far as I can see nothing is being restricted.

It’s not what you say it’s the way that you spin it.

You used to have to take your voting card with you to actually vote. Each card had a four digit reference number printed on it and you were then issued with your voting slip that also had your four digit reference number printed on it. I do recall my Dad having a massive argument at the Polling Station some years ago because he wanted to obliterate the number as they would know which way he voted and was told his vote would be ineligible because he had defaced the slip. But that's a different argument😏

We never take our cards,  I’ll  have a look next time, I’m pretty sure it say no need to take them.

No I don't think you do now, but you definitely used to have to - presumably to prevent voter fraud.

I'm 48 years of age and have never needed my polling card. My first election I voted in was 1992 without my polling card IIRC.
  • I voted in my first general election in 1974 my last ever was in 2017 (retired).
