Not many roses flowering in my garden at the moment, so I’m amazed at all your beautiful rose photos. I was tidying the garden a bit this morning and I’ve discovered this:
A healthy rose cutting I’ve tucked away behind the bird bath (possibly last winter or in the spring) and forgot all about it. I’m curious to see what it turns out to be.
@pitter-patter Very nice looking cutting. I find cuttings do best when just plonked somewhere in the garden and left, more so than potted cuttings. If anyone is struggling with cuttings, you could try doing that now and see what they end up like in the spring.
@pitter-patter nice cutting there! I gave up putting cuttings in pots, now I put them all near the plant that I’ve just pruned ad see what comes out. Just did it with Lavanda, Perovskia and all the roses. Will see next year if some of them survive
No roses today, but you're all crazy, like me,.. right?.
Yes, my TP arrived and I have hidden him. DH will get me checked if he finds out that first I was trying to find all those VPN sites and then I paid 20 EUR shipping for one 10 EUR rose 🤣
Hi everyone! I don’t post very often but I’m here every day:) Now… I need some advice. I’ve just been to the local garden centre (I think we all know where it’s going!) and came back home with AbFab (I just couldn’t resist! This rose receives so much praise here). The bit (can’t remember what it’s called) where the rose is attached to the rootstock is well above the ground. So I’m wondering what the best thing to do would be… just leave it? Or is it ok to repot it now into a bigger pot (it’s going to stay in a pot for at least a year before I figure out where in the garden to put it. We only recently moved here so I still don’t know my new garden very well). Thanks:)
I have to share something with you, crying on your shoulders.
I had the opportunity to buy Barden's Marianne. There is a woman in the Czech Republic who imported it some time ago. I contacted her a year or two ago but she didn't have any plants available. Now, she offered me a plant but she said she would stop propagating it because, in her opinion, it isn't worth growing. In her garden, it has grown into a 2.5m shrub but the number of blooms is disappointing in the proportion to its size. I have no way how to get it here and even if I decided to risk it, I don't have space for it. I considered putting it in my mother's garden but she has problems with bugs eating blooms of her roses (strawberry blossom weevil, I think) and a huge, once-blooming rose would probably be a bad idea for her garden. So I decided against it. There are other people in line, waiting for this rose, so it will get to a loving owner, I am sure. But it's still something I would love to have.
