I bought my seeds (Sutton) in Feb, d-fab (sowed on 27th) but I'll go for an autumn sowing for the next batch Out of interest, when did your seedlings show on an October sowing?
They start showing in mid November onwards @Biglad … they over-winter at about 6-8” tall and start growing again when the weather begins to improve …. end of Feb-ish.

Noted d-fab. Will definitely follow your method next time around. Mine took an age to start showing (not until May for the last of them!) although the bizarre spring weather probably didn't help.
Been driven inside by very fine drizzle but that's okay as was doing a very boring job of sweeping and weeding the drive. Not my favourite job. According to the forecast we're due some heavy rain by the morning - probably sent up by Hostafan1.
Just watched the video footage of the stupid fan causing the major crash in the French pelaton - what an idiot! I do hope the organisers find and sue her, some of the cyclists could have been killed.
Never grown broad beans, perhaps I'll have a go in the autumn.
Thanks for your well wishes. It all went very well - a steady flow of visitors all day with at the most 3 groups in one go. People were so nice and very complementary about the garden so I was basking in good feeling - and the sunshine this afternoon. Not everyone managed to get round all 25 gardens, but some of them gave it a good go! Tired now and looking forward to my dinner!
Glad it went well @didyw. Enjoy your dinner and a restorative glass or two.
@Biglad I sow our broad beans in early December and also plant garlic and shallots then. The BBs were later this year but very tender and tasty and we started eating them in mid May. OH harvested what was left while I was away and has frozen them all.
I've just been out harvesting garlic. Some plants have quite fat bulbs and some have very small ones while others also have "bulbs" forming up the stems. Never had that before but I'm just a beginner at garlic. It was always frozen to a mush in our Belgian winters.

@Biglad you are ahead with green beans and peas, mine aren't ready yet. I sowed my B Beans into root trainers in early March, been picking them for a couple of weeks, but they were under cloches for the first month after planting out. Later ones not ready yet. It's been a funny old day weather-wise, very dull and overcast all day, but mild. Glad the garden visits went well @didyw.
Greetings from Portreath. Took us 8.5 hours to drive down yesterday as the M5 was closed due to a fatal accident. We have had rain of biblical proportions since we arrived but it is due to improve on the south Cornish coast tomorrow and as we are off to Trebah Gardens we should be ok. Our apartment is lovely and very close to the beach.
