Are hedge fund managers like fences or is my understanding of finance even worse than I thought?

It's money for fences, not actual fences. Unless they are fences, in which case they are trading in illegal goods which are normally actual fences. Or hedges. Obviously.

I think the needle they are aiming to move is one that points to a position on a dial. I assume it was coined by someone who's been on a diet and found that even eating nothing but crackers for a week doesn't move the needle on the weighing scales.

I don't understand  a word of the first paragraph but the verisimilitude is undeniable in a Danny Kate sort of way

I still prefer my gramophone needle explanation but that doesn't mean it's right.

I thought it might be a good idea to move the discussion about swearing onto this thread.
Swearing doesn't bother me at all. I think people can be more hurtful using socially acceptable words.
If  someone opens a conversation with something like: "I don't mean to be mean, but......" , you know they * ********** well do!

I firmly believe there is nothing better than a well timed " f off" .

The word that pushes my buttons at the moment is ‘Abuse’.
That silly little girl shouting it every time someone disagrees with her.

    I joined this forum for

Its wealth of knowledge and experience so willingly shared. I have learned so much from reading on here and using the search facility.

The clear uncluttered layout (adverts aside) and ease of navigation.

The absence of words that I find offensive, and yes, I know that's down to each individual.

So to see the f word twice on different threads upset me. Just that.
I am sorry if anyone finds that wrong or silly or 'different'.
I may be in a minority, but I think it would be sad to see the forum littered with that word and others. Maybe others would welcome it.

Ultimately it's Gardeners World who'll decide I suppose, or their advertisers.

    It's a very rare occurrence, @Woodgreen. Just ignore it.😊

  • CHRISTMAS  -  the word seems to appear earlier and earlier every year.  Started in September this year - we still have to get thru Autumn yet.
As for the constant phrase "shopping for Christmas" - why not let it shop for itself and save the rest of us us a lot of bother  ;)
