Good morning Forkers.  Cool, grey and windy here. OH has gone off to golf wearing shorts!! And a shirt, jumper and jacket. I think the wind will uplift his ball if not his game but he can stay on afterwards and have drink on the terrace with his pals so he'll be happy anyway.
I'm cleaning. Started by dusting the surfaces in the bedroom ready to plug in and tune in my new wee radio. We're a bit remote from masts and towers here.  No signal for any station I want. I don't do French chat or classical music.  Radio now in the annex where I do pottering and crafty bits so that's OK, except that I have just found 5 packs of bulbs that I'd forgotten in a basket with a lid. All seem firm so I'll plant them and see what happens.Â
My rain radar shows loads of it going past just to the south of us and dumping on @Busy-Lizzie and @D0rdogne_Damsel but not @floralies or @tui34.  Sounds like the gales in the UK are a real PITA. Â
Have to say, shop staff here are unfailingly friendly and helpful - so far except for the one in Gamm'Vert on Wednesday.  Mind you, different story in Paris.
Interesting watching the Beeb news today.  Lots more worms to crawl out of the woodwork.
Morning everyone, I haven't been out to check but I don't think we have any wind damage, not sure about plots though. It's often windy there even on an otherwise still day. I am growing the Dahlias from the free seed too, very good germination, not sure what I will do with them all. Have as good a day as possible.Â
Very wet here again today. I did a training session early doors and rewarded myself with a nice, hot bath. Might just sleep for the rest of the day now
OH is working and eldest is risking a trip to the cinema with her cousin. They must be travelling to a screen in 1978 as, apparently, "Grease" is playing Â
Raining here. I came down earlier, lit the stove and took a coffee back to bed and read my book. Now the morning is nearly over, 11.47am in France. I've got dressed in my painting clothes to encourage me to start painting my bedroom. There is also a huge pile of ironing, mostly jeans and bedding, extra because of son's visit. Just having more coffee in front of the laptop, waiting for motivation.
I grew Dahlia Yankee Doodle Dandy one year, very pretty but not quite as good at surviving winter outside as Bishop's Children. I never dug up my dahlias as the last house because mice always managed to find them and eat them. The ones that lasted best were "Park Princess", had them for over 20 in the ground and they are still there. I planted two tubers here in March when it was so sunny here, then there were frosts and -4° in April but now they are up and growing well.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
It's been a busy morning in the kitchen ... I've made a lovely macaroni cheese with gruyere and mature Somerset cheddar ... that'll be for supper tomorrow when I get back with the new car. I've also finished the bread off and that's out of the oven, and now there's a Victoria Sponge sandwich cake in there, waiting to be filled with homemade raspberry jam. I don't often make cakes but the milkman is changing his delivery days and we're going to end up with too much milk and too many eggs, hence the macaroni cheese and the cake ... that's used some up. Â
Meanwhile OH has emptied the car of all the detritus that collects in a car ... umbrellas, guide books, fire extinguisher, first aid stuff, warning triangle ... and all the other stuff that's been there for an age, but we've forgotten why ...Â
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I made a death by chocolate, taking slice to various friends and family today. I can't believe after over 30 years together,my old man asked me little while ago,why I put the clay beads in quiches and flans!!! Bearing in mind our kitchen is open plan to our lounge,he isn't very observant
That is one truly magnificent pyracantha @Pat E. I have one against my outhouse that would love to grow that size - but I won't let it. The birds always seem to leave it until last, so I guess they are not as tasty as other things. @punkdoc - hugs to you; early days yet but it's good that you have this forum to help you in your grief. @Nanny Beach - it can't be all that much fun being a cashier in a supermarket but no need for them to be rude! We are fortunate as we have lots of lovely independent shops where we are with friendly cheery people running them. We tend to shop on a daily basis. It might be a bit more expensive, but then we don't waste anything either. It's always so tempting to buy more than you need in a supermarket. Going to a little plant fair locally tomorrow. It will be blowy and rainy still but I'm still ridiculously excited about it. I love talking to the local growers. One of them - Blacksmiths Cottage Nursery is even quite famous - he's cropped up in a few gardening magazines and books. (Famous for his snowdrops primarily).
