    Wet,windy and wild,NO the weather, not me!! Busy baking, asparagus quiche, chocolate cake,passing through popping into supermarket where oldest daughter works. Anyone help with this,I bake the pastry blind for 15 minutes using clay baking beads,then add the filling another 18 ish minutes. Any alternative to the baking beads,I find them really difficult to remove,a couple of times I have accidentally left a couple in, thankfully found before eating, said daughter has a fancy front false tooth, nearly a nasty incident

    @Nanny Beach  ... Don’t put the baking beans direct on the pastry! Get a piece of greaseproof or baking paper ... scrumple it up in your hand then flatten it out again and put it in the pastrycase so it comes up over the sides, then put the beans in the case on top of that. 
    Bake for 15/20 mins like that then take out of the oven, lift the paper carefully and you can lift all the beans out and tip into a bowl. 
    Then put the pastrycase back in the oven without paper or beans for ten mins -ish.

    Quite a bit of sunshine today. 
    The washing has dried and I did gardening this afternoon.

    The tiles haven't come, at least the builder didn't appear with them.

    It is. I would like the study and utility room finished and the furniture, which is in the open barn, put back before I go to Norfolk mid June. There is a load of stuff in the loft, like books and sewing things, which need unpacking.

    The wind is getting up a bit now and it's cloudier but still dry.   Not fun at the dentist.  He's preparing me for a crown and it felt like he was deep mining.  Loads of anaesthetic before he started and had to stop for 2 more and now it's all wearing off and I'm throbbing.   

    Had to go to La Roche-s-Y for that so took advantage and popped into the Vietnamese store for proper spring onions, baby pak choi, Chinese 5 spice and so on.  Thence to the leccy goodies store to pick up our robot which died recently.  He needed a new mother board apparently and they've extended the guarantee to Feb 24.  All free so I celebrated by buying a wee radio with a CD reader for the bathroom.

    Last stop was a GC which had all the other herbs I need for Possum's pharmacy except a jasmine.   Would a trachelo-wotsit do?   No, has to be jasminum.   Sorry, all been had by frosts in April so have t wait for new stocks to come in.  An excuse to go back then.  

    Bought myself a variegated gaura, a ceratostigma and a Greek basil and some cosmos and green oak leaf lettuce for OH and have just come in from potting them all on and stashing them in the polytunnel.   Going down to 5C tonight and tomorrow so they need to be kept warm.  I have not plated out the pumpkins and courgettes either as they won't like 5C.

    Well done to anyone who's been out gardening today, especially volunteering.   I hope the wet and stormy stuff passes without damage.

    @Busy-Lizzie that is so frustrating.  I hope you do manage to get it all done in time.

    You're a genius Dove,I knew there must be an answer! I've tried pricking, that didn't work alone although I still prick first. Wish I'd asked before I spent a month of Sundays picking out the red hot beads!!

    on the cooking front. I bought a chicken for £1 in Waitrose, but as it was intended for the rotisserie thingy ( which isn't being used ) it has no cooking instructions. 
    Can anyone help ( once you've all stopped laughing ) ?

    @Nanny Beach ... I’ve done a lot of baking ... once upon a time I was partner in an outside catering business (weddings, teaparties, occasion cakes, business lunches etc).

    @Hostafan1 I would treat as a roast. Rub it over with butter, cook at 180c for about an hour and should be okay. I'm not a cook though and others might have better ideas.
