@Fire Thats really useful thank you! I think its Etoile I was meaning as well looking back over the thread, lots of you have it. I dont mind a bit of sprawl, it can have a good swathe of fence to itself - theres a honeysuckle at one end, and an early spring clematis at the other end of that section but thats it its otherwise bare (I pulled some scratty Jasmine etc out earlier in season). I'll watch with interest how your Crimson Glory does, that looks lovely as well.
@Marlorena No worries at all it was a long shot I'll take more as it blooms - its only got a few buds on at the moment. I remember it did have a name (It was a garden show purchase) but it was before I did decent labelling - but Strangely, "Deep Secret" really rang a bell when Fire just reminded me of it, and looking at it it certainly does the singly or in clusters flowering and has the almost black buds before they open and the scent - I do wonder if thats it!
@JessicaS I think it speaks well that David Austin use Etoile as their featured picture for all climbing roses. There's covers the front of a house, but I suspect it's quite versatile. I'm happy and surprised that bees like it. I've never seen a bee on an Ena. I grow my Guinee, Crimson Glory and Etoile together in places, so it's slightly tricky to figure out which flower is which.
'Chippendale', or 'Duchesse of Cornwall' as it is better known here. Very fragrant yesterday, not much today (cloudier, colder day). I think I will like it. The first 'Silas Marner' bloom. Both roses visible in this photo. 'Crépuscule' almost there, 'The Albrighton Rambler' also starting. 'Minerva' yesterday and today
Sigh). All of your lovely roses are keeping me going while I wait for mine to open. My rose of the day is my first bloom, on Golden Showers, with lots of buds on the way - sadly the poor thing is suffering badly from blackspot.
One of my consolations: Paul's Scarlet Hawthorn which I've always loved, with its blossoms like little pink roses.
Blue For You, picked up at a local nursery for £5 - plus watchful dragon!
@edhelka, I had Chippendale in my wishlist but somehow i had in my mind that it is in orange apricot shade. Yours is very beautiful! I love pink roses with apricot glowing center.
@SeahorseFriend, that Hawthorn Is very beautiful, the pink of flowers really goes well with those lush leaves and your dragon is like the dragon in Merlin TV series.
@owd potter, I like colour of your mystery rose. Lovely surprise from a mystery.
Thanks. It tends to look more pinkish on photos. In reality is is very close to a signal red, perhaps Carmine might best describe it? Indeed a nice find. Bathsheba looks lovely
Can someone tell me why is this? buds of this dropping off..
if you look closely at the pic above you can see the black line under the bud, as if someone has snapped it.. below is the pic where the entire cluster of buds were damaged.. have not seen this in any other roses.. may be the odd one or two.. but not like this...
