Blimey DD looks ferocious. I will have to look Grace up, new to me too.
My rose of the day is one my mum planted in the early 90s, I dug it up
last year because a tree had grown right over it, potted it and planted
it out earlier this year, the deer ravaged it but finally it has
flowered. It looks more cupped than I remember but I think it is Mountbatten.
Due more downpours tonight which come at just the wrong time for quite a lot of flowers in the garden, just been out staking. These will look very different tomorrow,ElinaSusan WE, Mountbatten and Elina in the backBlush NoisetteStrawberry HillProper Job
Ah this fills up fast with amazing stuff *_* just when I think I’d go back and comment on some specific things one by one , more pages appear and I just dissolve in gorgeous blooms
I love seeing the amount of orange hues. This seems to be a color missing here locally, people aren’t too keen on them for some reason in states so it’s pretty hard to find them unless you order from DA.
Such lovely roses everyone ———-
for my portion, finally some ‘Enchanted Peace’ opened up
@Victoria Sponge I shall try and get to the label of the orange rose to see what name it has if any. @Nollie I have never chosen my DA roses as they have always been presents. I will have to get a photo of DA Amelia when it decides to bloom. It is one with far too many thorns. I just didn't realise there were so many varieties until I started looking at this thread.
I’m quite taken with Princess Alexandra of Kent this year. I don’t have another like her. Lovely scent at the moment. The stem holding this flower was damaged in the storm yesterday so I’ve brought it inside.
Calendula Indian Prince is looking good
Im really really pleased with the growth on my apple tree this year. I think the bottom three tiers are likely to have reached full width. There’s been no major aphid attack or slow down in growth this year.
Most excitingly, I’ve seen that’s it’s covered in short fruiting spurs with those new buds developing in the centre. So fingers crossed there’ll be flowers and fruit next year. It’s looking promising!
Well, I really wasn't going to but...I've pre-ordered 'Lady Emma Hamilton' from David Austin as a bare root and also 'The Lady Gardener'! This is in addition to 'Chandos Beauty' which I picked up in a pot from my local garden centre on Sunday quite on impulse as I only went in for compost.
@Victoria Sponge I think I've already said but I love your 'Dresden Doll'. I might have to look out for that.
@Nollie re. 'Chartreuse de Parme', I can't decide what to think! Mine is extremely healthy and has lots of flowers but its a harsh shade in some lights and I don't think it dies well, turning into a large cabbage burned around the edges. The scent is pretty good, especially on a warm day and there are now some very long, stiff new canes with more buds to come. I'll be interested to hear if you decide to hang on to it. I'm really undecided at the moment...
Thank you @Fran IOM! Please don't get scratched on my behalf!
I got Dresden Doll from Lens @iaincd (because it was cheaper including postage ordering multiple roses) but last year Beales were selling it also. It's tipping it down today but I expect it is still standing
The jury is definitely out on CdeP @iaincd. At first mine was a revoltingly lurid shade of bubblegum pink, so the current pink with violet undertones is an improvement. I will keep it for at least a full season to see if it bucks up.
I know what you mean about dying well - Marie Pavie dies horribly, but it’s very floriferous and has attractive, healthy foliage. So long as I keep on top of the deadheading, it’s other qualities far outweigh that fault.
Of my two dozen newbies this year, I have only immediately binned one, Arthur de Sansal was an irredeemable, mildewed mess. Total fail.
Another that nearly headed straight for the bin was Forever Royal, wonderfully healthy for @Marlorena, horribly diseased from the outset here. I chopped it right down, potted it on, gave it some tlc and it has regrown with a full set of healthy leaves. I can see a touch of mildew, but it has a reprieve and I will try it in my coolest, dappled shade spot: Previously most of the foliage was like this:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.

Forgot to take any photos of it 🧐
