Ive got macmillain nurse, i cant remember how fragrant it is, will check tomorrow!
@mummybeeleeYa6QsPRB what a lovely garden! Wonderful transformation. Ive got a new build garden myself so solidarity with the hard work on the soil! Ive got albertine too, mine is a huge beautiful petal strewing triffid and has vicious claws but its worth it in summer! Mine in June; Its been scorching here today, rain overnight did nothing, so dry a few roses were wilting at lunchtime and I had to emergency water! Never seen so many butterflies and bees though, very pleased. Few from last few days; First great western Colonel mustard
..when I was at Peter Beales I couldn't detect any scent on Macmillan Nurse, but I might have highlighted a rose before that may be suitable for your purposes.. that's 'Sweet Child of Mine' .. aka 'Artemis'... sold by Style Roses..
.. it's a white/creamy white rose, with good scent, of myrrh/aniseed... much like some Austins... it's blooms are rounded, rosette shaped and the foliage is clean and modern.. it also has the advantage of being rain resistant where so many white roses turn brown.. it also blooms continuously through summer..
It should be better known... my photos don't do it justice in my garden where drought is often an issue, so have a look at these if interested..
...is that the same rose you've highlighted before? the one that grew very tall and you weren't sure what to do with it, or is this a different rose now? what colour were the blooms on this one?
@mummybeeleeYa6QsPRB and a very warm welcome from me too, you have done a fabulous job on your garden and can’t wait to see your roses in their full glory. The more you get into gardening, the wider you will want your borders to be and the less important the grass will become, maybe something to consider if you are putting permanent edging in. I used metal everedge for my curvy border, so border creep is much easier 😆
@Rickyjones24 my OH has decided we need more white roses (too much pink she says). Always a double-edged sword when they take an interest in roses after years of indifference! I was considering Boule de Neige too, but it may get too big for my available space. I didn’t get on with SWE either because of the fast shattering issue.
Does anyone grow William and Catherine? Hideous name, but wondering how it compares to the other DA whites, especially fragrance. I really need something narrower I can slot in to show willing..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Boule de Neige is relatively narrow growing so maybe you could slot that in. Would white perennials in between the roses satisfy or it has to be white roses? Tranquility is another white DA, and maybe Kew Gardens as well, although it has some yellow? For a non DA, Margaret Merril is very well regarded.
@cazsophieq2019 Congrats on the new basal, it means that the rose is happy. I doubt it is a once-bloomer though. Anyway, you don't need to do anything now.
@edhelka awh thank you and to think I thought it was a sucker lol, glad I did a check ....
What makes you think that it may not be a bloom once or is that something that becomes obvious in time and experience?

Hey thanks for replying. yes believe it or not it's the very same rose, purchased for a £1 from Poundland and planted as a bare root lol
I've a attached a couple of pics of the blooms it produced. It produced about 20 blooms altogether and their scent was lovely, I was well pleased :-
Still haven't relocated it and I'm afraid to do so. Planning to buy a nice obelisk as a support in the near future.
@JessicaS your Albertine is stunning. It is certainly a very prickly beast! I have been squishing aphids from the other roses today but Albertine wasn’t appreciating my assistance so I will leave it to deal with them alone.
@cooldoc beautiful roses. Your yellows especially caught my eye. I’m contemplating a rose in a pot for the front of the house next year and hadn’t considered yellow but seeing those is making me wonder…
@Nollie I’m sneaking the borders a little wider when I put the edging in and the back border against the fence is going to be wider to match the depth we will need for the fruit trees as well but I can’t steal much more from the grass area. We have deliberately left enough room to pitch our tent to dry! The garden is a good size but I am having to compromise to meet needs of everyone including hubby, teenagers and dog and potential future plans which may need the garden to be young child friendly as well. Also trying to interest my home educated autistic teenager in some gardening and so far he is far more invested in growing stuff he can eat than in the roses 😂
Thanks @Omori, was slightly concerned by the max sizes 300H x 120W on HMF for BdN but I guess it will take some years to get there, maybe not ever. OH thinks a mid pink rose clashes between two darker ones and wants a white there. A few more white perennials might just do the trick though 😉
