...delighted to read you've not had the worst of the winds up there Adrian... I was getting worried about you..
... that Stormy Weather of Nollie's looks one heck of a rose..
..well, I've just had a wander around and can't see any damage, which makes a change.. and I'm seeing the typical year 3 Austin in Eustacia Vye, thick vigorous shoots popping out all over the shop, a really good sign... it's been a quiet rose for me so far, gentle growth, probably due to rose replant syndrome which is always a hazard due to the way I garden...
@Marlorena what are the beauties on your photo? I guess the white/yellow one is Kew Gardens? And what is the pink one? They look so beautiful together!
^ Lauriol de Barny I’m guessing? Cheat away @Marlorena, it’s good to compare dates.
Your roses are coming on a treat @owd potter, looking forward to seeing Falstaff.
Orange theme today..
Lady of Shallot is looking so much happier and healthier, after relocating from a scorchingly hot south-facing border to a temporary pot in dappled shade:
Lady Emma Hamilton bursting with buds:
Having recently removed two large, old, under-performing canes from Warm Welcome, it didn’t kill it off. Instead it’s responded by putting out lots of healthy new growth from the base, so I’m pleased about that:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I'm seriously thinking about a bi coloured rose next ( no idea where it would go) and a climbing red. I thought I would have lots of room with the new bed, but am fast running out.🙄
..fabulous new growth on Warm Welcome @Nollie ..just shows the benefit of some hard pruning doesn't it?.. LoS looking much better too...
...and yes 'Mme Lauriol de Barny' is the pink rose with Kew Gardens @Oliya .. thanks for asking about one of my favourite once blooming roses.. although one year I got some late blooms July/August.. I've been growing it since 1990 in every garden... it's an old Bourbon rose, wonderfully scented..
..this is the same picture today... at least another week of this awful May before anything happens here..
It does, doesn’t it? Even hard pruning at the ‘wrong’ time of year @Marlorena. I had heard that Warm Welcome burns brightly but can have a short life, so did it expecting I might kill it, but glad I didn’t.
It got a bit gusty yesterday, but nothing major. We are due rain but for once I am hoping it doesn’t come as both Soul and La Rose de Molinard are coming along nicely. Neither are very rain resistant and the opening blooms would be ruined by a downpour.
Just in case, here are some more of Soul, both North and South sides of the fence are equally good..

South side:
Some blooms are opening - see the bud in photo 2, already spoilt by previous rain:

... hope everyone is well..
.. this day last year... what could have gone wrong ?..
..sorry to cheat... can't let Nollie have it all his own way...
