@Fire in my experience DA sends out discount codes (for 15% off) in autumn at the beginning of bare root season and then again in spring at the end of the bare root season. I don’t think I’ve ever had a discount code from them at any other time of the year…
I promised myself no more roses and then I read this thread. I have now pre ordered a second Munstead Wood and a Gentle Hermione. Lord knows what will have to be hoicked out in order to get them in the ground.
I’d be more likely to be taking roses out if anything, rather than buying more!
My Gabriel Oak is rubbish. It’s performed worse so far than other roses I’ve previously dug out. I’ve had one flower this year and it’s barely grown. I’d be seriously tempted to remove it if I didn’t know it was likely to improve with time.
Vanessa Bell, you all know I absolutely butchered the roots when moving her, the move was also at the wrong time of year, has already bounced back and flowered more than GO.
He’s really got no excuse. Performing terribly for a second year rose.
Graham Thomas - rather gentle yellow so far, but I’m going to add it to my north fence where the colour may get a little deeper:
Harlow Carr - small, very shallow blooms at this time of year, will return to it’s fuller cup size in cooler weather/autumn:
Stormy Weather in the pink:
Chartreuse de Parme - very reluctant to bloom, got blackspot already (which always looks far worse on dark, glossy foliage), awkward old-fashioned HT habit. At least is is finally emitting some fragrance, fruity/sweet, plus the colour is better than previously:
Palais Biron is described as blooming singly or in small clusters - well this cluster has 15 buds!

I love this thread with all the beautiful roses in fact many before mine had even produced buds. I have a few DA roses but can't get to the labels without being scratched to death on the thorns. I know the first one is DA Grace and I also have DA Amelia but the buds haven't opened on that one yet. The second one I think is The Pilgrim. Any others will be from Poundland or Tesco a few years ago now. This one is Iceberg climbing the pergola. The next one is something I rescued as just a "stump" not expecting it to grow and that was about 3 years ago. Planted it under the apple tree as I knew it was a climbing rose and it has rewarded me by producing a flower.
I like the colour on Grace @Fran IOM, not one I've really looked at before but I might have to investigate further! The orange one is rather fun too.
Rose of the Day, Dresden Doll. This is a great rose (year 1), I'm going to buy it a fancy new pot. No scent at all but it is like it is made of plastic (in a nice way), doesn't notice rain, holds its shape. I planted it on an angle (before I read on here that roots often grow at an angle) but it kindly overlooked this ignorance by throwing up 3 new canes in the 'gap'.
The thorns look hazardous but they don't hook and tear off in your skin. I've poked them a few times.
One for the bin list, Fountain. It's more of a burgundy velour than the picture shows. I like the colour but it flops in the rain and isn't very generous flowering. Nice red spring foliage.
@Victoria Sponge Grace is the most prolific of all my roses and never fails to produce dozens of blooms. I feel like it wants to take over. Always the first to flower and the last to die off.
Glad you are enjoying the thread @Fran IOM and thanks for posting your roses. Grace is indeed beautiful, love the frou-frou petals. Not one I’ve seen before, is this an underrated DA perhaps? Funny how some just seem to pass you by.
Wow, @Victoria Sponge, Dresden Doll has teeth for such a pretty rose!!
