    Does anyone grow rosa Florence Mary Morse. Is it very old fashioned and passé? I don't see it widely sold...

    Ah yes @Marlorena, that would be an unhappy rose indeed. I don’t even like anything touching the rose foliage, so go too much the other way, perhaps.

    No, not me... is it still sold here?

    Nollie,.. I know these things can be cut back easily enough of course, and I could have done that to remove the swamping effect on that Phormium, although I rather liked it,  but people can easily buy these little Geraniums in 9cm  or 1ltr pots, and plant them near their new bare root roses, not realising what can happen...
    ..for instance, this is a photo of that Geranium today.. all very innocent, compared to what it will become in the summer..

    Yes I know what you mean, Marlorena, those inviting little pots can turn into monster plants! I shudder every time anyone recommends planting Rozanne with a young rose. Nepeta, lavender or salvia don’t overwhelm so much and the vertical form contrasts much more pleasingly with the rose blooms - to my eye anyway.

    They grow and sell rosa Florence Mary Morse at Dixter. They've had it for 30 years+ , one of Fergus' favourite plants.

    Those of you who grow rugosas and their hybrids.. This year I’ve acquired my very first rugosa, Roseraie de l’Hay.. are there any specific things in the care rugosas that are different from modern shrubs roses? I remember Marlorena saying I mustn’t and shouldn’t have to spray them.. are they as much of a hungry feeder as shrubs? Should I apply the same feeding and watering regime to my rugosa? (I do so about once a week to once fortnightly - I use alternate soluble seaweed feed and tomato food).

    @celcius_kkw
    I've never grown a rugosa in a pot, but I would suggest you treat it the same as your other roses as regards feeding/ watering, as it will need the same help to produce those big scented double flowers...   if it was in the ground I would say - don't bother, it'll look after itself..
    Maybe someone else here is growing one in a container?

    To be honest, I can't imagine this rose in a pot beyond 1 season, so i hope you prove me wrong on that... I sort of know you will ...

    oh ok.. I didn't know that..

    @celcius_kkw usually late to post here so I prefer just liking the posts. But your rain battered roses... cant put a like for that. Hope everything recovers well.

    @Marlorena I’ve planted the rugosa in a huge pot.. 65cm wide and ?70cm tall.. it’s the one I used to have my Claire Austin climber in. Do you reckon it will outgrow the pot?

    @cooldoc I sure they will recover.. and so will I.. after I’m done sulking of course..  I really could do with a rose bloom to cheer myself up now 🌹
