Carmen wurth is stunning @Marlorena! What’s the shape of the plant like? I saw and smelled this gorgeous rose at sewerby house in Yorkshire the other day.
Anyone any ideas what it might be? Pretty very flat blooms with a medium fragrance.2
@Ffoxglove .. Carmen Wurth is a nice rose July/Aug, but the blooms are poor in May/June unfortunately... too many petals and they show signs of rot... less petals in July, so the blooms are nicer... very upright plant, perfect foliage... I'm not sure whether I shall keep it or not..
.. your rose in the photo is 'climbing Souvenir de la Malmaison'.. could do with deadheading..
Hi all, back from my short, quarantined visit to the UK to read in the paper this morning the UK are now going to drop quarantine for double-jabbed and tested ex-pats, but probably just as they reintroduce quarantine for everyone arriving from Spain 🙄 Dad still sharp as a pin but shocked by mum’s deterioration, she’s so very much thinner, frailer and getting confused about everything. A shock to find the north of England as hot as back home too!
The garden mostly survived my absence, OH valiantly kept up the watering. But it’s tinder dry in the continued drought, fires are raging across the other side of the Pyrenees and suddenly, being surrounded by forest seems menacing 😧
Lots to catch up on so looking forward to that, will post some photos later of my rose survivors. Meanwhile, here’s a survivor of mum’s, which she can’t remember planting and had been covered by a pile of rubble for many years. It popped up recently and is already 4ft tall, I think it must be The Fairy - what do you think folks?
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Nollie ... that was quick, hope you had a nice time all things considered, difficult though it must have been with all what's going on now.. sorry about your Mum though, it must have been a shock for you, as you said.. I'm surprised you got back so soon, with quarantine and everything.. I thought you would be holed up here for longer..
.. yes The Fairy as you thought, I can't think of anything else right now for that one..
Does anyone grow Renaissance roses? I gather they're v similar in style to DA but with better scent and without the dreaded droop, so am seriously considering finding space for one.
Look forward to seeing how your garden is doing @Nollie, or anybody's for that matter. I'm glad you were able to travel to see your parents. When they are older the changes can be pretty swift and concerning.
No rain here either, and the water butts are empty. I don't think the mildew on Mme Isaac Pereire is because of dryness at the root @Marlorena, I think I've got the watering of my pots pretty organised and I check with a probe tool measurer thing. I'm putting it down to humidity, my (set to auto) kitchen extractor seems to come on pretty much whenever the patio door is open.
Most of the roses have a bloom or two each, the ground-planted a few more, enough to keep me interested. Giving most pleasure are the new growth on The Prince, it was a fragile spindly thing, and another back-of-the-shed find, a solid lead sundial.
Thank you @Marlorena it’s so great to have feedback from people about their roses rather than what you read online!
I’d like to replace Claire Marshall in my garden (don’t worry it will go to a good home not in the bin). It just doesn’t look nice in a pot… the blooms are too few and far between and it’s always bending with the flowers head weight.
.. you might like 'Donatella', it's got a lovely scent.. no idea what these beetles are though.. C. 'Star of India'.. Stipa gigantea.. 'Pirouette' .. a climber.. Hemerocallis 'Stafford'... Petrorhagia 'Pink Starlets'.. ...more 'Wild Rover'...
