@Mr. Vine Eye you sound like you have done a fantastic job through an exhausting year. I hope you can have a proper rest over the holidays - away from stress and planning. People like yourself keep the country together, though I think of the country doesn't realise how much it depends on such integrity and goodwill.
I hope you can kick back with a glass of something cool and enjoy the summer. 🌱
Agree with the other sentiments @Mr. Vine Eye. I don't have much to do with youngsters but I'm glad to know that decent and genuinely caring people like yourself are in that important role and profession.
No pretty bloom photos to share with you, but wanted to post a pic of my two latest acquisitions: Zephirine Drouhin climbers. They will be trained onto a steel arch over driveway in back of house. They shipped own dry root and were planted in pots 2 weeks ago. So far, looking good I think. They are my very first climbing roses ever.
Here's the one on the house side of the arch already 60cm tall: And here's the one planted in a pot on the outer side of the arch (already 30cm tall, despite looking nearly DOA when received in mail):
Hi @PeggyTX, your climbers will be lovely when they get going but may do better planted in the ground. Mine is about 7/8 ft tall now. The perfume is lovely but watch out for black spot and feed them well.

Thanks for aster monch cutting info, I will give it a try.
Went to the plot this morning to get it back into shape a bit and spotted our first frog in the pond!
