I don't know if I have done the right thing or not, but two of my roses needed the big long canes that they sometimes throw up, cutting back. I have decided to try to root them, as they are healthy stems. Am I doing the wrong thing at this time of year? Will they not work if they had flowers? I have put them into gritty compost, and have dipped them in rooting gel. Is it a fools errand? They are Celebration and Blue for You.
Had a week of doing live and recorded lessons from home and spending every spare minute working on the video leavers assembly for the Year 6s.
They've all been great considering how much of a shock it must have been suddenly being sent home and missing out on your last week.
Have done a live session with them every day to keep in touch, play games etc.
All very rewarding stuff but I'm absolutely exhausted. Think I've worked more in that last 10 days then I have the rest of this term. Definitley burning the candle at both ends.
But I can finally take the foot off the accelerator and give the family and garden some much needed attention.
Hello. A few pics from the last couple of days... 'Julia Child' really getting into her stride now! Loads of flowers... 'Mousseline' or 'Alfred de Dalmas'. Pretty and I love moss roses but the flowers do shatter quite rapidly after opening. 'Chandos Beauty' just in its new pot. Possibly the rose with the loveliest scent in my garden! 'Chartreuse de Parme' on its second flush with lots of buds to come... I can't decide about 'Cinco de Mayo'. The individual flowers are undistinguished and it has no scent but there are lots of them, its really healthy and it makes a good overall display plant. Finally, a general view of part of the garden with rose 'Inspiration' at the front.
Thanks @Marlorena. I did have Westerland in that border funnily enough but l moved it into my back garden bed where it hasn't made much impact this year. None of my orange roses have been very noticeable this year though so maybe it's my eyes! Thanks for the heads up re Dame Judy.
I kind of like that ruffley mix on Cinco de Mayo @iaincd, looks really interesting, as does your garden, nice to see that. My Mousseline is fairly unimpresssive so far. I didn't notice it start to flower and then its first flush went over really quickly (although it was during the rains) and nothing since.
Thanks @Victoria Sponge I meant to ask about your 'Dresden China'. One of the things I like about moss roses is the scent of the moss. To be honest, I probably like that more about 'Mousseline' than the flowers themselves! Does 'Dresden China' have that sort of balsamic scent when you rub the moss? Even if it doesn't I'm still tempted - it looks a lovely little rose!
I also meant to say @Marlorena that I really like your 'Wild Rover'. I must look into that one.
My little potted moss is Dresden Doll @iaincd, I don't know if it has other names. I'm not very good with describing smells but it reminds me of the wood ashes after a bonfire. Mousseline makes me think of live pines. Sorry, I'm rubbish with things like that.
@Mr. Vine Eye, did you take aster monch cutting? How did you root those?
I had ordered aster monch from southeastern horticulture but they sent me something else and no matter how many photos I send or explain they won't believe what they have sent is not aster.
Nevermind I am thinking of trying some cuttings from existing plant that I have in garden.
