Morning Debs and all to follow. Good grief Debs, you are going to give yourself an ulcer all the worrying you are doing! When the store manager is around do what he/she says and when the area coordinator is around do what he/she says. Ignore their power struggle and keep going with your head down and be glad for your sister that she will have something to keep her mind off brooding. I'm sure that you will be able to organise your lovely walks at another time. The other thing you could do is to address your concerns and write to the head office, copies to the area coordinator and the store manager and explain how unsettling the whole situation is for the other staff.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Good morning everyone .Debs ,your work situation sounds stressful.LBs advice is sound ,Try to ignore the power struggle .LB you will be gardening between showers today i think .
Good morning. It’s only a minor thing really but the manager wants us to save up our lieu hours to use as holiday and coordinater says we can’t do that. I have been told that lieu hours can’t be taken when I want to take them, and also, from a different source, use them or lose them so it feels as if I will be working for nothing. The hours in dispute are 4 hours each Saturday morning which are voluntary we take it in turns to do them. We used to get paid now we have to take them in lieu. I may ask to speak to someone higher up to determine company policy. LB you are right I don’t want to cause waves but sometimes it’s necessary.Â
You go for it Debs. You are not making waves, you need clarification and as you are getting conflicting information it would be better coming from someone in a more senior position than the two you speak of and ask for any clarification to be put in writing.

Morning everyone, I fell asleep quite quickly, but woke up up just after 3 and then lay awake for hours. Eventually fell asleep and woke up just after 8. Feel rather tired. Sorry you had a restless night @debs64 Work sounds very stressful, I agree with LB about writing a letter. Could you chat to someone at Citizens Advice? I don't think they can make take your unpaid hours as holiday. I'm sure it's taken as hours in lieu. Although I think I would say if that's the case I'll just work my contracted hours. You're not losing anything Debs.....except all the stress. Enjoy your walk with your sister, hope you can meet up other times once she starts her job. Sending a hug. Sunny here this morning, but rain forecast for later.Â
Morning all - sunny, dry and cold here - same old, same old... Think I'm going to have a trip to a local farm shop and nursery to see what they've got. They also have a fish van on Fridays so might pick up something nice for tea😋
Debs - your situation does sound stressful. I'm going to ask an obvious question. Are you in a Trade Union? because, if you are, they should be sorting this out for you. If not, would it be unreasonable to request a full staff meeting with both store manager and area coordinator present for them to thrash out in public what the policy will be. The agreed policy should then be written down for all staff to refer to.
Until they agree to do that what would actually be the result if all staff refused to 'volunteer' to work on Saturdays? Would that get them sat round a table?
Failing that, what would be the outcome if you alone refused to work any more Saturdays until you have a written and agreed policy?Â
It's not voluntary work if they can force you to do it.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
I am going to ask today if we can have confirmation of the policy of the new company. Our manager wants us to save hours up rather than take time off at less busy times because that suits him, he likes everyone there so there’s no pressure on him but the company are very money driven and won’t be happy they already think we are over staffed in our branch and they are right. Asking for lots of extra paid holiday won’t go down well. I enjoy Saturday morning shifts, love the pharmacist and makes for a less empty weekend and Monday mornings are so quiet I get very bored especially if manager is there and wants to regale us all with his stories! The full time staff don’t want to give up their weekends obviously so it mostly works for me to do them. Some of the staff are excited to think they can get more paid holiday but I think it will backfire.Â
Good morning.  Lily I hope your vaccination goes well.  Hopefully, you will have a better night tonight.  Maybe a Horlick or Ovaltine will help you sleep.  Hazel I’m pleased to say broadband has been working fine.  Sometimes it’s good to have a rest.  Your body lets you know.  Debs LBs advice i would agree.  Try not to get too stressed and maybe you can walk with your sister at a different time/day.  I hope things resolve. Â
What a lovely picture Debs. Would you like me to switch it round for you? T'Bird, how is the Broadband/email situation? Enjoy your trip to the farm shop. I wonder if anything in the nursery will tempt you.
