Good morning LB, Biglad, Debs, Rubee and all to follow.

LB, good luck with dahlias seeds. I never even tried to grow them from seeds.

Debs, have a nice day at work. It's always easier to work with lovely and pleasant people.

Rubee, stay in warm home and have a nice Saturday.

I got up early, but decided to make cinnamon buns for breakfast. Kitchen smells divine. Sunny and windy morning. It's cold and wind bring snowflakes from hills. I'll also stay at home and spend free time with book and tv.

@Biglad the raised bed at the allotment has one rhubarb plant given to me by a friend that grows beautifully every year. I put another plant in the same bed, disappeared! Bed is 6foot by 3 foot so should support 2 plants. It’s a mystery. Hoping my new plant succeeds. I feed and water diligently so not sure what’s happening.

Good morning Ruby and Ante. Ruby, it is grey and cold here so I'm not venturing out until it gets warmer! Ante, this will be an interesting trial with the dahlia seeds so I will keep everyone informed as it develops.

Doesn't sound like your care of them, disease or pests then @debs64. If they disappear rapidly, you'd imagine it must be critters eating them. Could it be the age of the rhubarb that they go for - young and juicy plants over more established?

    Morning everyone,
A very frosty morning, was surprised to see how white the garden looked when I opened the curtains. Sunny now so should disappear soon.
Have a 'sco delivery this morning, do hope I get everything this week. Hoping to get out in the garden at some point today, want to dig over a section by the fence.  Should be easy after the rain this week.
    Have a good day everyone

    Morning

Quite a dull day today. I have not ventured out so cant comment on the temperature.

Going to SM this morning  and also popping to the garden centre too for a look around. They close for the winter but reopened on Monday. I follow them on Facebook and they have put some lovely plant pictures on. I have my eye on some Hellebores, which looked nice in the picture.

SGL I hope the sun shifts the frost quickly so you can get outdoors.

Ante Cinnamon buns sound lovely. I bet the smell is lovely in your house.

Have a good day all 😁
  • LB I’m hoping you have success with the dahlia seeds.  I wonder what kind of soil they need.  Lily I hope you get what you need from the sm and the frost soon goes.  Chive I’m having a rest day today.  Ante a lovely day ahead.  Delicious rolls.  Biglad take it steady today.

Afternoon folks,  If there are any left @Ante30 chuck a couple of buns my way, they sound delicious.  I've never grown Dahlia from seed, I always buy the tubers it will be interesting to see how they go.  I'm waiting for Bishop of York and Bishop of Canterbury to arrive from Sarah Raven.
Fence by the new raised bed is being painted by Hubby as we speak while I relax with a cuppa.  We removed the gravel and the membrane this morning and will fork over the compacted soil when I get a bit more energy.  I managed to extract clematis Perl de Azur from the very large pot it is in and planted it in the ground.  It will allow us to push the raised bed back a little to make the path down the side of the house wider. Apart from that I planted a few primroses, ferns and a pulmonaria.  No plans for this afternoon might be looking at plant porn.

Morning session done. Rhubarb moved to shady bed. Weeded the other bed. Did about an hour and a half of shed-painting (x2) but the hands were starting to go a bit numb so thought I'd warm up by sawing the Christmas tree and another saved trunk into logs. As I was then loosened up I finished off digging out the roots of THOSE bushes.

Not much food in the house as I'm doing the SM click and collect this evening so it's a Hollands meat and potato pie for sustenance in readiness for some seed sowing this afternoon. I don't have much room left indoors so might just try a couple of trays in the 'blow away'.
