Good afternoon, so glad we got into the garden this morning as it's turned very wet now . Still tackling the front garden, how can such a small space take so long? Trouble is I'm alternating with work on the Allotment . I think I need to concentrate on one & get it finished. We will see.🤔 BTW those who are feeding the birds with suet pellets, what feeders are you using? As several of you said they were popular with your birds I thought I would try them but so far the birds are ignoring them completely.
This is what I use @Allotment Boy only mine holds six balls. Our birds (a variety of tits and some nuthatches) get through 6 in about 3 days. Very popular. The magpies sometimes muscle in too, in which case they get emptied much faster 🙀
Mind you, just realised you are talking about suet pellets, not balls ....which I don’t use, so can’t help much 🙄 .....I”ll get my coat 🧥
Just going through my seed packets to try to plan a sowing regime, which will involve selecting windowsills that receive light and warmth but won’t be disturbed by curious cats. I have loads of ‘free’ packets from gardening magazines, mainly annuals, plus I bought some veg seeds - mainly suitable for pots and tubs.
I hope all of you are doing ok - particularly those with injuries, pains, or worries.
*was going to say ‘usual’ or ‘regular’ but that might not ring true either, myself included 😂
I have 'borrowed' hubby's metal shelving out of the shed and closed off the kitchen door from the passage for the time being and it's given me a nice big place to sew seeds. Not had any issues with them not being on a windowsill yet but it's easy to rotate them round different shelves if need be and the cats haven't attempted to climb it either! Got 2 new big propagaters from the garden centre the other day too, 2 for £4 instead of £6 each which are now on there too
Allotment Boy, we use the clear seed feeders for suet pellets, ( or buggy nibbles, as the type we buy are called) We have a feeder with sunflower seeds as well. Usually they are both very popular, with the suet pellets often going down quicker than the sunflower seeds. However over the last month, I’ve needed to top up the sunflower seeds almost daily, while there have been far fewer takers for the suet. Even the Greater Spotted Woodpeckers are eating the seeds for a change. Don’t know why that is. Maybe all the birds have become vegan!
Thanks folks, we gave up on the fat balls @chicky, because the squirrels always got them. Yes I used a clear feeder, though it's in a second cage for the same reason as before. Even the seeds are less popular. I think we have spoiled them with the dried mealworms- fussy little beggars. 😄
I've finished making my 2 new beds and planted shrub roses, lavenders and other perennials brought from old house or online. The vegetable garden is behind the fence. Needs weeding badly. There are baby strawberries buried in the weeds.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Wow that’s looking so good @Busy-Lizzie - you’ve been working soooooo hard. Really looking forward to pictures of those beds full of rosy loveliness 💕💕💕
Hi everyone. Hubby has discovered that the goanna is also known as a Lace Monitor. Interesting. They kill snakes, so that’s good. 🤙. Unfortunately they also raid nests for eggs, but you can’t win them all. 🙄
Someone in town today told Hubby that he had ice on his windscreen this morning. Der! It’s only just March. Strange seasons everywhere it seems.
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ and hello @Pat E 😊 I was looking at Lace Monitors the other day ... strangely beautiful creatures ... perhaps he’s after your snake (s)
