The Rose's thread keeps disappearing, does anybody know why please? It had 90 unread posts on it when I first logged in.

Hi folks, another busy gardening day.  Lawns mowed,  put new stones round pond, moved two large obelisks (feel a visit to Taylor's Clems coming on).  Popped to Ashwoods and picked up more potting compost and bought half a dozen small alpines.  I have replanted the log planter and it looks much better now.  Did a bit more clearing of the front borders and pruned Wollerton Old Hall, the last rose to get the chop.  It's turned into a lovely sunny day here.

@Busy-Lizzie doesn't matter if it's expected it's still very sad.

It's my sister's birthday today - husband died in January from catching covid in hospital, so I rang her for a chat and i have to say she is quite "the merry widow"!! She was never allowed to spend much time on the phone to me in France, I feel she has a new lease of life, he was always a difficult whatsit.   :/

I have been getting mucky laying a seep hose round the new frit bed and barrowing chipped bark in to cover it all once I'd checked it was all going to seep where I wanted it.    The hens helped, needing to peck over the ground before, during and after the spreading of the bark and also checking every spade load as I filled my barrow from the heap.

Possum came to watch and found it all so funny she might decide hens are good after all.   Up until a couple of days ago she was refusing to go anywhere near because she found them creepy.   Strange girl.

I've also moved my one surviving rhubarb clump to a dedicated raised bed behind the hen house after pouring on 50 litres of horse poo which they also helped with to teh extent I've had to protect it all with a cold frame and cardboard.

    Need a good shower now.

That's good for you @floralies, being able to chat longer.  I hope she doesn't miss him too much and starts getting up to all sorts of fun when the weather improves and life eases a bit.

It was cold here too until mid afternoon when the sun finally put in an appearance.  I didn't go to the dump, it's closed today,  they changed the days & times  quite a while ago and I still haven't got my head around it.
I barrowed some soil from the  communal compost heap, for my raised beds.  I hope I don't regret using it I think there will be a lot of weeds. I have buried it at the base, so I  hope it will work.

  • Sorry to hear about your friend @Busy-Lizzie, difficult for all I'm sure.

Glad to hear Possum is feeling more positive @Obelixx, hope the bike ride inspires her further.

Likewise @Allotment Boy, I've topped up what will be my new hot bed with about 10 barrow loads of compost today. Unfortunately the two areas couldn't be further apart so I've certainly clocked up the steps on the Fitbit. The compost was very well rotted and no sign of growth in it, it's mostly leaves and grass cuttings and dead heads so I'm hoping it doesn't shoot up too many weeds. 🤔

Also found and ordered a suitable bench for the garden. Actually it's two seats linked by a little table, I thought it seemed more practical, had good reviews, something to look forward to. 🙂

I also spent some time sitting down and sketching out my soon to be 'hot bed', mapping out what's already in it and what I've got growing or ordered for it. All colour coded. Looks great on paper at least. Still have to track down my lost order too, I'm so annoyed/disappointed about that. Another phone call on the list if jobs for tomorrow.

Hope you're all ok, I'm going to try and watch a bit of TV now, although not sure I'll be awake for much longer.

Many thanks @Dovefromabove,  re the Rose Thread, have bookmarked it now.

Glad everybody enjoyed their day, it was too cold for me here to do anything (and I'm not in the mood).
