I think the video says that a spot is OK to plant another rose as long as the rose being taken out hasn't been growing in that spot for more than 5 years.
Thank you @Bright star for the link to the video! I couldn’t quite catch what exact type of marigold Bunny mentioned in the video, can anyone post it here?
Just wanted to update those that helped with my question about moving a huge New Dawn rose - it appears your advice was good, 2/3 weeks on we have new growth. I'm so pleased it seems to have settled in, the new position is so much better for it and me. Thank you @Marlorena and others.
I also have new obelisks being made for my other large roses after the old ones finally gave up. I just couldn't find any good ones that would ship to France to buy but luckily I've found a man who can. Pictures will follow. 🙂
Here's New Dawn.... hopefully photos of blooms will follow too. 🙂

..re the Tagetes... yes the Nema or Nemagold above is recommended or the other one obtained in the UK is called 'Durango Tangerine' or just 'Tangerine'... they must be either Tagetes erecta or Tagetes patula varieties,...
..do not confuse with or get Tagetes tenuifolia 'Tangerine Gem' as sold by Sarah Raven, it's the wrong type apparently..
I can't be doing with it myself but there you go..
I have no shortage of wine boxes, but thought the 6 bottle box Bunny had was a bit on the small side, you would have to root prune many bare root roses to get them in and bury the graft as well. Probably won’t make much difference in the end but I feel it’s a good excuse to go the full dozen at the wine merchants 😆
I also wonder if advice has moved on since DA back in the 80’s said you only get RRD after a rose has been in 5 years @peteS? Peter Beales says in a 1997 book after 2 years. I change the soil if a rose has been in one year and use MF on a better safe than sorry basis.

That does seem the simplest solution @Omori, I'll go with that I think. Thank you for that video @Bright star , very interesting
Thank you for the recommendations for rose books earlier in thread. I bought 2 as gifts. I bought Rosa; The story of the Rose by Peter Kukielski and
Roses and Rose Gardens by Claire Masset. A quick browse means they are on my own wishlist.
After looking up Claire Marshall as mentioned on here, I impulse bought it from Cants Roses. It arrived today and is ok. When the canes are at such an angle do you plant them with the canes or roots aligned up and down? I put the roots going down as I assume that is how it grew but it does leave the rose looking ugly to start with.
I'm envious of those with buds but mine are getting there. As a rose newbie I am really enjoying and surprised by the initial foliage and bud colour differences.

That's my outdoor table behind which will soon be assembled, the lovely weather yesterday meant our first tea outside this season, so happy about this.

About aphids, I’ve been reading about worm castings helping with aphid control (https://journeywithjill.net/gardening/2019/05/21/3-organic-aphid-control-methods-tested/) — anyone have experience with this (for roses or other plants)?
