@Lizzie27 ...Hi Lizzie.. re your black spot on New Dawn.. remember, we had 3 warm days end of March right?... a so called mini heatwave.. the fungus got active then, we also had some rain... what you see now are the dead remains of the fungus that gives the black spots.. that's why people who spray are advised to start before they see any develop... ..it's much too cold for any fungus to develop anew right now.. just pick them off..
@poppyfield64 ..oh what a ton of seedlings.. you're going to be busy like the rest of us.. and your Clematis is doing really well... I'm hoping my first one of the season opens soon..
@SophieK .. this isn't uncommon... you can complain to DA, they most likely will offer a replacement but if out of stock, they may say they will send a bare root in November .. but personally I just plant it and forget about it... if you have 2 good canes it should do fine... is it Tuscany Superb?...
Thanks Marlorena, I'd forgotten about the mini heatwave!
@poppyfield64 - Margaret Merrill is a very delicate looking white/cream rose with a lovely fragrance. Flowers are smallish HT shape which I particularly like. Mine's not a strong grower as it's in a difficult position between a tall evergreen hedge and a smaller dwarf box hedge in front - my fault for planting it there. Hope your MIL's does better.
Great to see all that growth and everyone’s budding nursery businesses!
@Lizzie27, that really dry, warm March then freezing temperatures has being playing havoc here too, brought on the blackspot and the aphids and sawflies are breeding like mad.
Lots of lovely rain today and some buds colouring up:
Francis Dubreuil:
Noella Nabonnand:
Forever Royal, surprised that a cool weather one is still looking burgundy red. I am not in love with the sickly foliage!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Marlorena you certainly have a shelf full....I think I can see a little gap lol.
I see what you mean now about ordering from SEH. I want 2 different Iberis and 2 different creeping Phlox so 24 plants in total. I'm going to have to rethink this now.
Thanks for info @Lizzie27 fingers crossed it does well for her. She was 90 last week and wanted a rose with Margaret in the name as that's what she's called.
@Nollie .. nursery business.. lol.. yes it's beginning to look like one..
I've never seen Forever Royal like that.. such a shame... we never know how they'll do in your conditions do we?.. mine does get a bit later on, but nothing like that and I hardly notice, otherwise I'd likely have got rid..
I'm very pleased with my 'Queen of Denmark'... I potted for the first year to plant out later as it's a once bloomer.. but I have buds on it, so delighted about that.. liking the warmth of greenhouse..
@Marlorena Thank you for your advice. No, Tuscan Superb is a bit slow going but all 5 stems have (small) leaf buds. It's Sceptr'd Isle. I'll contact DA and see what they say.
Yes, as much as I admired yours @Marlorena I kind of knew Forever Royal was a big gamble here, I had a feeling it wouldn’t like my heat. I don’t really mind the blooms being burgundy but the foliage is a shocker. But at TCL’s prices, no big deal. I have hopes for Purple Lodge as that looks really sturdy and healthy, plus the same breeder as my favourite Stormy Weather 😊

@Nollie Weeks roses clearly do well for you... you might like this one too.. it's growing away quite well, in stony conditions that are not the best.. and with no sign of frost damage this Spring.. 'Wild Blue Yonder'..
..oh, and I like your Noella bud, the leafy sepals and bulbous receptacle.. I always notice these shapes... foliage looks good too so far..
