@Marlorena - that looks great. Very much like some of the photos of Frankie online!

It was a clematis that I got because I liked the look of it, with no real thought as to where it would be.

However I've seen a photo of it trained quite low and horizontal below a low window. So perhaps that would work ok for mine.

I'll just have to make sure I train and prune it carefully. But in a small garden that's not an issue. In fact I like maintenance.

I'd hate it if my garden became low maintenance and I couldn't "garden" in it!

..yeah.. I like lots to do, but then I'm a control freak, usually out of necessity though, having a smallish garden..   no idea why i have seating areas, they're not occupied for long..  I'm sure you'll sort out your Clematis, those types do look awful dead in winter don't they?..

..you and me both... I got my Macplants.. all good... and my SE Horticulture.. lovely plugs... some things worth noting with SEH, and in a normal year I wouldn't be doing this... but I needed loads of small 7 or 9cm pots to pot on... a big bag of compost, and somewhere frost free to keep them...  so with all the potting on etc. might not be that economical.. also you have to order 6 each of nearly everything, and I don't always want 6,.. so I've got rather a lot of plants on the go...  I feel I've been working in a nursery all afternoon...

Nice roses  !.. back to normal with frosts tonight... I had a +6 last night.. wow !..

..nice aren't they? I didn't get those but I got some XL Foxgloves and Hollyhocks...  I thought it best to pot up for now, in small pots and grow on a bit..  are you planting yours out like that? once these frosts pass, I might tip them out and just plant them..

Marlorena I’ll plant them out, the smaller plugs I’ve potted up and will wait til they get bigger. I wish I bought hollyhocks as well, actually there’s loads I wish I had bought 😛

I've just spent a good ten minutes or so picking off black-spotted leaves off my New Dawn rose. I'm not sure why it should get it so early and not the others. It's trained on a south-westerly facing shed at the top of the garden so does get plenty of wind! It might be because it's so dry at the moment? Pleased to note that it has got some small buds on as has my Margaret Merrill, which is looking healthier this year.

Hello - I bought 3 bare rooted shrub roses from David Austin this winter: Desdemona, Sceptr'd Isle, and Tuscan Superb. While two of the shrubs arrived with 5 stems, one only had 3 and now that they have started to grow it is apparent that only 2 are alive while the third is dead. Should I contact DA or is it parr for the course and I can still hope for a full bush? I would love to hear your advice.
  • @Lizzie27 my mother in law has just ordered Margaret Merrill yesterday. Have you had any issues with yours.  It has had good reviews from what I've seen.
