I received the DA handbook today, some very pretty garden photos there. Also some photos of roses that aren't on their website - I don't get it, if they have the photos, why not use them to show more on the website to sell the roses? Silas Marner still has only one photo (a different one was in the handbook!) but no full-bush shot anywhere.
My feeling is that DA are not very techie. Their search function has been up the duff for months if not years and it doesn't seem to bother them. It doesn't surprise me that the handbook has roses that the website doesn't show.
My DA catalogue turned up today some nice pictures and had a good gander, My bank account is feeling very vulnerable .
I have been wanting a white shrub rose for a while and desdemona keeps looking at me like buy me , I may grow it in a pot .
Eustacia Vye keep getting my attention I am trying to stay away from pink but I really do like the apricot colouring in it , how pink is Eustacia Vye ?
I sent a message today to DA asking when Gabriel Oak will be back in stock , said Mid May for potted rose .
Only problem is I haven't got anywhere to put them for now . I have a feeling the front lawn is going to disappear later on this year . I am getting to many ideas for the front garden I am think of a English prairie style garden ( yes I did make that up ) Prairie plants like Eupartoriums - veronicastrums - molinia - sanguisorba and swaths of eryngium - salvias - astrantia add in a 100 or so alliums and a few shrub rose and probably another climber/rambler on the fence. , could do to stop thinking about it the lawn will be gone by the end of this week .
If I do get desdemona and Eustacia Vye / other I could grow them on for this year for planting out later on in the front garden. I'll sleep on it before buying . I bought some plants yesterday from binnys plants , I were thinking an hour before that how well I have done not buying any plants all year but for seeds / dahlia tubers an maybe something else but they don't count
@SophieK you will be pleasantly surprised by how much they will grow. I potted my Desdemona into a bigger pot this year as she grew so much. She's now in a 20"pot ready for this year.
This was last September and I only got her in the June.
Oh wow, very impressive indeed! Thank you for posting this photo that gives me good idea what my small Desdemona may look like this summer or next 👍🏻
@Omori Look forward to seeing your Syrie too, hopefully it does well for you too. It really is one of my favourites.
@Marlorena Thank you! Im looking forward to all the roses too. Im thinking of feeding my roses at the weekend, as they all seem to be sprouting away. I use empathy rose feed, I have a huge tub of it ready. It was great for them last year.
Oh, and Angel eyes and eyes for you finally defoliated! Both growing new leaves happily too, so I picked off the rest of the old ones once it started dropping them.
Bit worried about my two styles New-Zealand roses though, "simply gorgeous" and "Fabulous" - anyone have them? Ive just emailed Styles for advice- they dont look very lively, no signs of growth. They were bare root potted, and ive been super careful protecting from frost etc and looking after them. Everything else is sprouting away, the rest of my bare roots all look great. Pic below. Maybe they just wake up later?
Heres some more of this weekends hard work though, Ive cleared the rest of the old turf etc from the expanded borders all across the L-shape here, and turned over all the trampled down soil. It looks lovely soil too. I managed to take a couple of quick snaps as the sun was coming out - you can imagine what a suntrap that back fence is in summer!
The smaller black pots at the back are temporary seasonal display ones, full of sprouting bulbs to brighten up the bare soil till I plant it. The big pots are dwarf trees, Pear, Apricot, plum and a cheals weeping Cherry on the corner. Ive potted so I can shuffle them about depending on the season and to avoid any greedy hounds reaching over!

I mean just photos, not entirely different roses. Like a different photo of Silas. It should be easy to add more photos to a rose product page. And it is generally known in internet marketing that the more photos you have of a product, the larger the conversion rate (the probability of a sale) is (up to 5 or 6 photos, then the effect gets smaller). This is really low-hanging fruit.
@poppyfield64, your Eustacia Vye photo is the best I have seen, it looks as if it is glowing. Beautiful. I regret not getting it when I bought Gabriel Oak.
@edhelka, you are right about the pictures in catalogue. They have a nicer picture of royal jubilee in catalogue. I wish the colour card were stickers.
I think their search is intended to be this way to promote what they want to sell.
I've just bought 'Vitex Organic Rose Feed' from my local garden centre...because that's all they had, but reading the ingredients on the back, I find it is made up primarily of pelleted chicken manure, of which I have a very large tub of already. So I'm just wondering if I could've saved five quid and just used the stuff I already had for the early feed. DA's own feed is out of stock, but Peter Beale seems to have a well balanced feed available, maybe I should've gone for that.
As you are getting your new books, are DA only releasing one new rose this year? Their site has the new Nye Bevan rose, but no others, is it still too early?
@purplerallim, i would think so that there is only one new rose. The book has only one. Who knows if they introduce something in Chelsea flower show in Sept. Very unlikely though.

You are welcome @SophieK. You'll l have to share some photos when she comes into bloom.
