I grow some modern roses as annuals, discarding in October.. I kept this 'Jardin des Tuileries' because I really like it, so deserved to be planted out.. 'Chawton Cottage'.. starting to ascend.. really nice foliage on this rose from Harkness.. 'Mutabilis'.. the pots to keep my dog off at this delicate stage.. it should be flowering soon.. 'Duchesse de Brabant'.. this will grow quite large in time.. ..this old Alba rose doing quite well, lots of breaks.. 'Mme. Legras de St. Germain'..
All so promising @Marlorena . I went and looked at HMF for JdeT and found your photos, really very pretty. Your comments suggest it was not a prolific bloomer at that point, did it get better? Was your pot in a sunny spot or do you think it didn't like being potted?
Edit I see now that was a late Aug comment so I guess not.
This is me, I usually have higher lows and lowers highs than most of you but even here we had ground frost on Friday night and Saturday night. Cars weren't frosted though, so I think it was very close to 0 or just above. Our average last frost is 30th March... Other than that, I am fed up with Macplants still being closed for online deliveries (too much demand). I've been waiting to be able to order from them for weeks Yesterday, I ordered these from Middleton Nurseries, this is the first time for me, ordering from them. They have a huge selection of salvias. So here I am, so deprived of plants that I am paying £7.50 for a 9cm pot plant which probably won't survive the next winter. But whatever. I am quite excited about the digitalis hybrids, they are both hybrids of Canary Islands foxgloves (isoplexis) and our foxglove. They should be perennial, shorter than normal foxgloves and with much longer flowering season (sterile, I think).
I know what you mean about MacPlants, crazy isn’t it...I went to our local garden centre to buy some compost, the plants are all rather on the dear side though so only bought a few. Did check out their range of roses which include sections for DA, Harkness, and Beales, but wasn’t tempted. Miracles do happen 🤔
I have been keen to try the ixoplexis type foxgloves @edhelka, but can’t get any. Probably just as well, they are unlikely to survive my winter lows. I shall look forward to seeing yours instead 😊
Now here is a puzzle - is this own-root or grafted and if grafted, what rootstock? Doesn’t look like laxa. It’s my dead Mutabilis that I have just dug out. Any ideas? It was from TCL, like yours @Omori - is yours still alive?
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Nollie ..that looks grafted to me.. the roots are too thick for own root, and I also think it's on Laxa.. I would guess the roots were dead when you got it, or near as.. they look dead to me... if you cut through them are they brown?..
I didn't know Macplants were closed for now.. that's a shame, maybe not for long..
@edhelka ..I'm not sure I would pay that for a 9cm pot, but if it's a plant I really wanted, well I probably would, but it would need to be special.. I'll have a look at that nursery some time though..
I had a Digiplexis.. it was sold to me as Digiplexis Illumination 'Raspberry Improved'... it didn't survive the first winter.. I could have mulched it, but I didn't.. pity, I did like it.. I read that 'Flame' is hardier but I wait to see on that.. the series should really be named Digitalis x valinii 'whatever'.. so it may be listed under that elsewhere..

..clever photography... at least this time of year the sun is up early and quite strong, so burns things off fast...
..yes, that rose is so nice, but as you read, I felt it could have bloomed a bit more, even so it's a rose worth keeping..
