I was wondering if these leaves on my 'Tuscany Superb' need to be picked off. They were still green from last summer until the 'Beast' arrived the other week and dried them up.
The leaves on my other Gallica 'Charles de Mills' are the same.

I planted Wollerton next to my front door last year.  It's doing well so far but it's too early to recommnd.
I would definitely take those leaves off.  I've removed all leaves from my roses this year to try and limit the spread of black spot.  I'm going to give them a sulphur spray and make sure all leaves are picked up.  A good mulch will also hopefully help.

  • Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone. I shall post some responses and also some thoughts and further questions I’ve had on it a bit later.

Just saw Celsius post about ladybirds and wanted to post those photos 😄

Didnt want you to think I hadn’t seen or was ignoring!

@Mr. Vine Eye, I have couple of climbers but all are too young to give any feedback. Crown Princess Margaretta is lovely colour and flower form but didn't repeat much. Though I have a feeling it could just be that it isn't in a good location in my garden. Strawberry hill, flower form is nothing special, both flowers and leaves are shiny - a bit fake look but it was first time I could smell myrh, so fragrance is good. I liked Bathsheba too, but you already have it.

@Mr. Vine Eye Those Lady birds are a delight for my eyes. Guess they occur naturally in your garden. I have heard that they would just leave if artificially introduced. Was wondering if anyone could share their experience in introducing ladybirds to their garden.

@Meomye, I think most of us don't have W&C rose so no one said anything.

When I was choosing a DA white rose, I was thinking about it, but then I read lots of good reviews of Desdemona, so I went for Desdemona instead. Desdemona has little hint of pink but it was for pink/purple border so looked alright.

@Marlorena nice list. Do you recommend Blush Noisette?

I've got 'Isaphan' trained as a short climber which is gorgeous, paleish pink, very free blooming and fragant but doesn't repeat much. It grows thin pliable canes which I've trained over a rose arch, so probably 7ft or so in height. Might do more but I usually keep it at that height. it's now trying to grow sideways into a Magnolia stellata.

  • Hiya..So nice to find this thread.

I am new to planting and really love roses and want to plant a border full of it, so it is the main focus.

I have selected a few roses that do well in partial sun too as my garden is north facing so I don't get full sun.

I am thinking of buying 5 lots of either:
    Eustacia Vye

    Harlow Carr

    Susan Williams

But being new to planting, I wanted to know if I brought something like this

    bare root rose

     https://www.davidaustinroses.co.uk/products/susan-williams-ellis

Will it bloom for this summer?
How long does it take roses to grow?
Do I need to buy something which is e,.g approx 5.5 litre containers, large well established 6-7ft specimens?
    Slightly confused.

    Help welcomed with open arms.
