@cooldoc2000 Golden celebration is very prune to black spot and has weedy growth on some branches, the flowers are really nice though . Lady of shallot is the healthiest shrub rose I have .
@Mr. Vine Eye Ghislaine was quite nice to me it were the lady of shallot that really assaulted me and Paul scarlet . I bought my mum Gertrude jekyll for a birthday gift a while back and prune it for her, now that is one vicious beast , I don't really like GJ the flower and scent are marvelous but I hate every over thing about it especially how it grows.
I’m not sure about Maid of Kent now...I’m not sure I like the way the flowers are on what seem like very long octopus arms. Think I need one a bit neater for where I’m growing it.
Also Marlorena’s comments about scent are going round in my head...
I’m thinking of possibly using The Generous Gardener, but that cutting will need potting on and growing for another season I would think before it would be ready. It’s not showing roots yet, although the new buds are starting to grow.
I’m also wondering if I should grow another Malvern Hills - It’s great as a wall covering.
I already have Malvern Hills, Ghislaine de Feligonde, Bathsheba, Lady of Shalott, Mortimer Sackler and The Generous Gardener as climbers.
Obviously hoping DA release a new climber.
I’m removing my previous filter to do with flower size. It’s a West Facing wall.
I’d like just your recommendations for the best climbers 12ft - the wall colour is the same as in the photos of Malvern hills. I think most colours would look alright on it because it’s not a solid colour itself - orange, sandy, grey and blends of those. Plus you get contrast from the green leaves anyway. So I’m open to all colours...
My Golden Celebration is a blackspot magnet and resolutely refuses to be a shrub, throws out long lanky canes every year that can’t support the blooms. I cut it right down to 30cm this year, planning to hoik it out and replace with a Delbard yellow, which was then out of stock, so I’m stuck with it for another season. Maybe the shock pruning will make it behave! My GJ is the same. I can hard prune it but within months it’s nearly 2m high again. I also took out half of the canes to reduce the thicket, but it’s having none of that - three new canes breaking the surface already and it’s only February! At least it is healthier, with sturdier canes, gorgeous blooms and superior fragrance.

Have you tried Poets wife for yellow? The few months she was with me last season, I found her always in bloom with good fragrance (was not as strong as Emily Bronte to my nose). The flower size will be medium (not large like GC), remained fairly ok in terms of diseases, but it would be premature to comment on that just by having her for few months in bloom season. Lastly, her growth pattern, its like hanging from the big stems above. Not everyone's taste but I like that kinda growth. Again, I must admit that this is from my limited experience, will see how she behaves this season.
Hi @cooldoc200, looks a lovely rose, but I understand it has a spreading, arching habit and probably wouldn’t cope with my summer heat here in Catalunya. Interestingly, GJ copes much better and is more floriferous for me than GC, even tho the latter is meant to be one specifically suited to warm climates. Every rose is an experiment here. The Delbard roses are supposed to be fairly heat resistant and the couple I am currently growing have sturdy canes, which would suit me better, I think. I’m looking at Souvenir de Marcel Proust and/or President Armand Zinch. I also have, new this year, Golden Beauty. Despite little fragrance, my best yellow so far is Julia Child (aka Absolutely Fabulous). Given I didn’t used to like yellow roses, that’s some about turn!

I am considering rose William and Catherine, just wondered what your thoughts were? Anyone loving or disliking it? Also, I can only fine it on D.A website unless you know different? Many thanks.
