Sat here not twiddling that thumb. It's amazing how incapacitated one can be by a sliced thumb which needs to be held up - can't sew, can't sow yet as it's too cold and dark. Maybe sort some seeds then.

Just as well we can ‘sleep the sleep of the just’ then, eh @Obelixx? 😉
I sliced the tip of my left thumb with the bread knife about ten days ago ... it’s amazing how incapacitated I was for the first few days. Hope yours heals quickly. 😊

Oooh, I did that years ago when I was about 19 or 20 and doing a student bar job. Not good. This "slice" is nearer the middle knuckle and a lot bloodier but I've just changed the dressing and it's looking OK so far.

Went out to cut down a self seeded pyracantha which had got very big and was in the wrong place. My excuse for letting that happen was it produced loads of berries which the blackbirds hoovered up. But it had jagged me once too often so had to go. Moved on to tackle hazel and laurel growing on the steep bank behind the house - 12 feet high on top of a 12 foot high bank. If I read another thread about laurel not growing well I'll offer to sell them some of my self seeders. Turn your back on it for a year and the sky begins to darken. Good supply of hazel bean poles now stacked for this year's veg though and another half dozen trees still to coppice.
While I was wrestling with those 12 foot poles and trying not to fall down the bank I heard the familiar cry of a buzzard. Looked up and there were five of them riding very high on thermals, never seen more than three together before. For once the corvids left them alone. I have seen jackdaws, magpies and crows ganging up to chase off buzzards and tawny owls.
Hi again I have been spending money - well Birthday gift vouchers. I have ordered new Raspberries and Asparagus crowns, maybe having a deadline will get me out and finish prepping the new beds for them with a bit more determination. As I have been meaning to do these jobs for the past 2 winters at least, I couldn't let another go by without doing it. @D0rdogne_Damsel yes my mealworms are dried, it may take the birds a day or 2 to realise they are good. You can put them in a shallow dish with a bit of water to soften them- that may make them take to them better, or perhaps French wildlife has as sophisticated a palate as their fellow countrymen.
Ours won't eat dried either @Allotment Boy but love the fat blocks with them in. I soaked some overnight and they didn't like those either so I gave them to the chooks who dived in.

Dried mealworms are very popular with my crowd. Blackbirds, thrushes, robins, dunnocks, wood pigeon, magpies, jackdaws and crows all scoff them down. Even the blue and great tits will grab one if they get a chance.
A few years ago, Christmas Day, my youngest son had put a glass near the edge of the work top, Hubby grabbed it as he knocked it off so hard, he broke it, sliced through his thumb big time, I had a look said it needed stitches, he said he wasn't going to try and sit in the ED for hours, on Christmas day, thanks. We went to his Mothers' for lunch, he couldn't even cut up his food, yet the silly woman insisted he went up in the loft for something, and then wired a plug!! (no, we don't speak to her anymore) Not because of that incident.
