  • @Busy-Lizzie, I was going to say the same  re cardboard and beds. I have tried it with mixed success. I usually do dig first to get the worst of the perennial weeds out,  it does suppress most weeds well but not bindweed or couch grass, so much. As I'm sure you know they will grow through anything.

I am wondering @Busy-Lizzie whether there might be other treasures yet to appear in that bed. I think I would be inclined to wait at least another couple of weeks to see or even until the autumn.

Hi all,  been out in the garden since 10.30 this morning.  Have spread 10 bags of manure over the borders, moved more pots and resited a 6ft hollow tree trunk which I am going to plant up.  The tree man popped by and trimmed the centre Ivy/Rowan and I spent some time tidying up after him.   He gets most of it up but I like to get all the ivy berries up so that they don't seed. I am now officially shattered.  Hubby cleaned the cars and helped me tidy up so he's tired too. Think it's going to be a takeaway for dinner.

Merri had the results of her many scans yesterday.  The consultant says that she has a twisted fibia and tibia, her knees are out of line and her hips are curved inward.  He says he could straighted it all out but it would be a massive operation involving breaking most of her bones and inserting rods.  It would mean 6 months in a wheelchair and learning to walk again.  He has suggested that her knees present the bigest problem so she is going to see a new knee specialist at the Birmingham Children's hospital.  She has a futher appt in July when they will decide about the knee op. It will mean being on crutches for some weeks but it's nowhere near

@Yviestevie, you have been busy. Wish I  could say the same but back/hips still twinge.
Shocking news re Merri - poor child. Let's hope the knee specialist offers  more hope.

I'll be joining you tomorrow @Lizzie27 I suspect everything will ache.  Merri has taken it really well considering the prognosis for the future isn't good.  The specialist reckons she will suffer from arthritis quite badly.  I told her that it's a long time till she needs to worry about that and by the time it's a real problem they'll probably be able to fit her with bionic joints.

@Yviestevie I once cracked a knee cap in a riding accident and tore the ligaments too.  When I got to the physio part of healing the therapist was bouncing up and down with excitement.
"You've got a rotated tibia!  Only seen that in text books!"

Sounds like Merri has an extreme version and I really do hope the new knee chap can suggest some less drastic solutions.  On the other hand, she is young and if it's going to help her live a stronger, fitter, more mobile life, it's worth doing.   Best of luck to her.

  • Poor child @Yviestevie. :(

    Has anyone heard from @Hostafan1

Day spent in the garden. so lovely out there, but digging over beds still hard work. I am hoping to start planting up soon, but I do realise the preparation is important. Here is a 'before' picture, I am hoping mid July that this bed will be full of bright colours, we'll see.... Unfortunately a lovely rose that was there before (and it's trellis) had got utterly out of hand and had to be cleared out completely. Bindweed and nettles had found a great place to hide, they certainly took some digging out.

@Hostafan1 has not replied to my messages, thinking about phoning him, but don't want to intrude if he is feeling peed off.

    Evening.

Finally in the garden today - so much to do! Fully expecting aches tomorrow.
I hope those of you who were able to do any gardening enjoyed that fantastic feeling of Spring.

Thinking of Hostafan... maybe they ‘made’ him go in for intravenous antibiotics. I just hope all ok anyway.

I hope you and your family aren’t too anxious about the little one @Yviestevie and I hope it can all be as straightforward as possible for her.

Enjoyed the rugby but sad to see a home game with no crowd.

    Take care folks.
