I'm trying to decide whether drilling holes in stone slabs or ripping up cardboard for the compost is the most tedious job.
I’ve no idea what I’m doing.

    Afternoon.

I vote ripping up cardboard @Latimer - most tedious.

Raining today. I was planning a coat-on potter outside but I am still tired and headachey so can’t be bothered.

Have a good Sunday all whether at work, rest or play.

    Afternoon all,

First 'proper' gardening day of 2021 here. Been dry all morning and the sun is starting to threaten an appearance. Just come in after a 4-hour shift to find I'm home alone (they were still in bed when I started!).

I'll need to do a good few hours of work at some point today. The question is, how long do I leave it before opening that inbox :o

Afternoon, just finished a three hour stint in the garden.  Finished pruning roses, cut back pheasant berry, cleared the remaining borders, dug up a few plants in the wrong place and mowed/edged the back lawn.  It's looking much better now, unlike me.  I'm shattered, so I'm having a well earned cuppa with a flapjack.
Have had to cancel my raised beds from Suttons as they can't tell me when they will be delivered.  Instead I've gone for a good quality wooden bed and I've also ordered a load of compost to fill it.  It should be here in a couple of weeks. I think I will just have time to sort out the front garden before it's delivered.
Lots of hellebores, crocus and snowdrops in flower and the camelia and daffs are just starting to break.
Hope everyone has a good day.

We were surprised as well Obelixx but I guess as our lane is so narrow at that point they thought there would be fewer traffic than on Monday when the primary school the other end would be partially open for essential workers' children.  Hence the Road Closed sign. It was shut for an hour or so.

Witch hazel pic @Dovefromabove. Not very striking in the photo but I like it. Planted in 2009,it hasn't grown much. I need lots more of the purple crocus though.

Nice, @Lizzie27 - wish I could grow them. They turn up their toes here. Not quite sure if it's the soil or the wind.
    Still raining here.
If you're a crane spotter, Sunday is the best day to do it, especially in cities, if it's the mobile ones you're after. Seems like a lot of trouble for an oak tree but it's going to a lovely home, whether Westonbirt or Batsford - both really nice places to be a tree

Made myself useful for once, took OH for her jab this afternoon. Last minute check on the best route showed a crucial road closure so had a slightly frantic detour but still got there exactly on time thankfully. In and out in 5 minutes flat! She got the AZ jab whereas I had the Pfizer one.

Thanks @raisingirl. Our soil is alkaline clay over limestone so it's probably struggling a bit. Doesn't help that there's a very large Norwegian maple behind the hedge either. I didn't think the usual yellow witchhazels would stand out enough in front of the horrible yellow privet hedge!
Apologies, OH later said the tree had gone to the Mendips not the Cotswolds (!) so I amended my original post.

  • Thanks for the pic @Lizzie27 ... good colour combination ... yes a few more crocus and it’ll really zing!!! 😎
