You must have done physics, biology. Salt is savory, blackcurrants are sour.

I believe they contain a significant amount of sugar.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

I'm easily pleased @Nanny Beach! As for porridge I have it every morning made with water and then a dollop of honey on the top.

I don't get porridge in any shape or form.  Horrid stuff.  I do like oats in flapjacks, bread, biscuits, crumble but not all gooey like wallpaper paste.

Properly made porridge is not gooey like wallpaper paste.  My Mum and Gran both made fabulous stuff, maybe because they were Scots and knew what they were doing.

I love my porridge, made with skimmed milk and cooked al dente in the microwave. Teaspoon of sugar on top, plus a few dried apricots and some blueberries. If I have any in the fridge, a drizzle of cream makes it really luxurious, and presumably negates any health benefits!

I don't like porridge much but OH does. 50 years or so ago, I stayed at a B & B in Edinburgh and got thoroughly told off by the landlady for daring to ask for sugar on my porridge - can't bear it made with salt the Scottish way. It was a terrible B & B.

I don’t use added salt in cooking, or have table salt. I’d probably find the Scottish ‘proper’ porridge far too salty for me. I can eat it without any sugar, and enjoy it with added fruit or dried fruit.

I've not added salt since 1975

I've never seen the point of adding salt to the water when cooking vegetables.
