The Olympics. Just bl**dy brilliant. How proud we should all be of the participants from all over the UK, and what enjoyment and entertainment there's been from all corners of the globe. You'd need to be a pretty miserable individual not to feel uplifted by their success, and some of the stories behind it.
Who'd a thunk skateboarding could be so exciting!

Absolutely agree @fairygirl ... have always loved watching the Olympics but this year I've been glued to them ... so much badly needed positivity ... and I agree about skateboarding ... who'd a thunk it ... and the BMX bikes ... ponyclub for city youngsters ... bdooly brilliant ... let's hope all those badly maintained BMX tracks the councils built then ignored for years get refurbed PDQ ... not to mention the ones that were planned and then put on the back burner for years ...

That wee girl in the skateboarding was a hoot. It's when they totalled up the ages of the finalists and it was hee haw, that made me laugh out loud! I have very mixed feelings about boxing in general, but that girl today. What a story. I hope her crappy teacher [who dismissed her dreams] was watching. Maybe she could go round there, knock on their door and give them the 'V's while stating the well known Scottish phrase - 'get it right up ye'
I wonder how much sleep The Boss and his wife have had too

I feel slightly sorry for the Kennys' child. It's an awful lot to live up to The girl in the pole vault, and how she managed to train with the broom handle and tin of baked beans. Total respect.
Of course, listening to the wonderful Michael Johnson also takes a bit of beating.

One of the aspects that most impressed me was the camaraderie among the competitors. I loved every aspect of the games. Team GB met the very high expectations placed on them and to put the cherry on two great weeks, Leicester won the Charity Shield for good measure.
I’m sure Paris will make a great fist of hosting in 2024 and I’m looking forward to the handover ceremony soon. Any likelihood they’ll do the jelly wobble dance?
I have been very impressed by the tone set by the Japanese hosts at the beginning ... and now at the ending ceremony ... really international as well as being Japanese, and alongside the fun, real sensitivity and poignancy rather than jingoism.

I agree with the comments about the Olympics, particularly the new sports. The Olympics needs to attract younger people, and skateboard and BMX is likely to do that. I remember how sniffy the winter sports followers were about bringing snowboarding in. In fairness, there was an element of the snowboarding fraternity who accused those who took part of selling out.
I hear a rumour that riding with balance wheels is being brought into the next Olympics to give 'baby Kenny' an early start :-)
